Indeed. Safety cars are the problem. It introduces chaos into pit strategies, and allows cars to close up gaps. I grew up watching F1 in the 80s, and I don't recall EVER seeing a safety car. They either red-flagged the race and ha

Silly me, I just clicked on the first link that wasn't an ad, and it was the official apple support article: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT209037 I agree that it would be awesome to use an iPhone in this conte

I worked for a company that did pre-infiniband HPC interconnect drivers (Myricom) in the 2000s. We supported N-different *nixes (Linux, Solaris, FreeBSD, Tru64, Aix, and probably more I'm forgetting), Mac OS X and Windows in the same

This appears to support just photos and document scanning. And also seems to use BT and WiFi. I have a friend who lives in a high rise with incredibly crowded wifi spectrum. Anything wireless that involves latency sucks in their apartment

Sadly, I have no choice. I have a Garmin connected to an iPhone. Even when I disable most notifications for an app, it will still hit my watch. On Android, I could filter out which apps could notify the watch, on ios, it seems Garmin has

Just please, for the love of god, don't do it in slack. Nothing annoys me more than a colleague writing a long slack message when I'm AFK, and having my watch buzz like an angry bee when they hit one carriage return (and send a n

Its all about where you spend your time and accumulate expertise. I'm a kernel dev (FreeBSD), and this all made perfect sense to me. But a lot of web dev stuff I read about here seems like wizardry to me!

Does the dupe detector work on title text, or URLS? I posted the same article last night: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=31719519 The URL is the same, but I shortened the text differently (the article's title w

If I was building the same system, I'd use 8GB of RAM and use the NVME drive for an L2ARC. I'd put the root fs into the main zfs dataset. The machine will be faster (~128GB of cache), cheaper and draw less power due to less RAM.

I love the Garmin Fenix series. Always on screen with 14days of battery life, notifications, and excellent exercise and health tracking, music storage, spotify support, etc. The battery life is achieved by not being glitzy like Apple watc

I think the biggest step towards the current political polarization was the FCC's revocation of the fairness doctrine in 1987. This lead to conservative talk radio's rise, which lead to the mainstreaming of right wing propaganda.
