As a cofounder of Beeminder, this makes tons of sense to me! Plenty of room for a less nerd-focused take on this (we're heaving on the Quantified Self side) and other forms of motivation hacking besides commitment contracts based on gr

Thanks! [glow!] And really excellent point about queue limiting and kanban! Now I'm wondering if there's a hack or plugin or just a convention to make Trello work that way... Or maybe the answer is Beeminder's Trello integrat

In case you meant this as a Beeminder question (it's a good one!) the answer is, yes, you can end a goal any time with one-week notice, or schedule it to end at a pre-specified date.

I should generalize more: A goal to hit a certain weight is a bad goal because your weight will typically bounce back. But a goal to reach a certain weight and then stay below it forever is more System than Goal. You want to always be on tr

Sivers later clarified that it's only true for "identity goals" where telling people about the goal is part of what the goal is. Like "I want to be a runner." By saying so you're making it sort of more true in

Your intuition is better than mine! I crunched it out (just now edited my answer to show how) but still have no intuitive sense of why it should be the golden ratio. Would love to hear some intuition for that!
