So what would you call the meaning of the low GPA? It is clearly meaningful to you. How would you describe the candidates you’re rejecting with this heuristic? It could mean anything from “i can’t read” to “i dropped out to form a business”

But a low gpa isn’t inherently meaningful at all. What do you mean “make up for” a low gpa when you shouldn’t be hiring around gpa in the first place? Like it’s not some debt to be paid; it just means they attended class sometime in the pas

Well, that’s the rational consumer side of you. What about the side of you that’s a member of a community—how do you start caring about externalities?

I am unfamiliar with patent law, but the traditional discussion about it is whether it actually reflects these supposed values. Consider the major innovations of our time. Did patents play any role? As far as I can see, the best innovations

It already is better than a car. It has a higher throughput and lower cost. If you value luxury, pay more for private transit. This isn’t contrary to a city that invests in public transit. SF is practically undrivable during the week rush h

> bad public transit is 10x worse than just sitting in a bit of traffic, or dropping a few bucks on an Uber/Lyft. How can this be true? Public transit allows your attention to wander and typically is much, much faster than traffic.

Opting in implies a choice.... often times the “choice” is “give up your personal information or you can’t get the service at all”, even if the service is, say, a water utility. A large part of the problem is that companies can pretend to u

You’re referencing indexes of various health systems metrics, not perception of health systems, which would be the salient facet here (and might not change anything about your point).

I don’t see any reason why Amazon would have difficulty here. There’s already regulation in place and generics are designed to be interchangeable—getting an off brand alternative would be a win to the consumer, so long as the choice is clea

Well I'm still terrified of wolves, so I don't get your point. Did you misread the parent comment? Fear isn't dictated by technology. We still fear things that can't really hurt us easily.
