For the same reasons you might ever want a more specific term? What about assemblers or disassemblers? Given a suitably broad definition of compiler that includes transpilers, are they not also included? Wouldn't the same arguments app

Personally, I think of transpilation as a subset of compilation. So a transpiler is also a compiler, and a compiler that has a readable language backend can do transpilation, which is a type of compilation.

This is why the common refrain of "Calories in vs. calories out." is so frustrating to someone in this situation. The problem is that those things are not independent. It's a pretty reasonable adaptation to try and keep those

IPFS is immutable and hash addressed, so 'modifying' something yields a new address. Existing documents that point to the modified thing will still point to the old version, unless their links change as well. Effectively, sharing

It's likely that the problems with statistics are inherently due to the nature of knowledge, so alternative formulations are not likely to help much.

There's plenty of work left to do, but almost all of it requires labor to be combined with other resources which are scarce.

This may be a function of the somewhat fickle nature of my short term memory, but I find the transition of looking between screens to be noticeably easier than switching between virtual desktops or something similar. This is despite the fac

Experimental econ is a fairly large sub-field that is very useful for micro phenomena. Unfortunately because even the micro phenomena are complex and difficult to quantify, you can't reliably use micro knowledge to mathematically predi

Not sure I understand the usage attributed to Netflix? Sounds like the writer is saying that front end is node, but that can't be right? Can someone who knows what they're using node for go into a little more detail?

Basically, people expect momentum. During a boom, people expect values to keep going up which serves to drive values up but eventually they'll get past what is reasonable. Once they start correcting downward, people expect them to keep

It sounds good in general but the problem we're encountering is that in practice some things that are really very important just don't get cheaper fast enough to keep up. In particular, health care / rent / education cos

I don't think inflation by itself is an adequate explanation. If inflation was happening in isolation, you would expect labor prices (wages) to increase as well, which they have not been for the most part.

This assumption breaks down for most financial assets. Both parties still think that they are gaining value, but one of them has to be wrong.

Sure, that's a valid issue, but it's unrelated to my comment on the ease of changing ownership of an asset.

The point is that physically sending the gold is not the equivalent sense of the word transfer in this case. There will of course be some differences, but the gold ledger is the best gold analog of a bitcoin transaction.

You're not really transferring Bitcoin though, you're just adjusting a ledger of who owns what. There's nothing stopping you from doing the same thing with some gold, you could probably even create a setup where it is done at

If I had guaranteed enough income to survive, I'd still be working and I suspect that most people would. Probably a bit fewer hours so that I could focus on hobby research a bit more, but that all depends on the resulting labor market.
