Fred is a big proponent of "open", which is great, but it's still not clear that "open" is going to win this game. The battle between Windows and Apple wasn't just about "open" versus closed. It was about availability of third party softwar

I'm a little surprised that they removed the revised version of the bar. I found some of the topics listed there interesting. Seems like they responded to the technorati rather than what would best serve their needs along with their users.

It's not so much about slaughtering the elephant as it is exploitation of the villagers to promote his company. It's like he's saying to them "Fine. I'll help you. I'll get rid of this elephant and save your crops and even feed you for a d

The amazon link to python programming says Python 3 on the cover. If that is in fact what it's referring to, not sure if that's really what's best to learn right now. I started with 3 then realized I had to quickly downgrade to 2.6.

A hospital when implementing an EMR is looking for some cost benefit in doing so. One obvious one is reducing medical errors. The other is reducing staff size. If the physician has to do all the work in entering the medication (drug, dosag

My own experiences with eLance haven't been great, but I'm sure for some people it's worked out. It's best to work with local talent, even if it's going to be more expensive. I'm guessing trekdek hasn't worked out since if it were going to

I think Slide was acquired more for the talent than for the product itself - although that's an expensive talent buy. And who knows, maybe in some capacity it works out - I believe the Slide team at Google is responsible for the launch of D

Pretty cool. I like this part from the FAQ regarding phone support: " We do not outsource our support overseas or employ low paid, unqualified support staff."

Might be a good idea to create some filter effects on your own and apply them to your photos - giving a sample of the original and your various filters applied to it. Just a thought. Good luck.

Maybe the bar should only appear when one conducts a search - so it could have some relevance to what is being searched - rather than right on the main screen.

It's happening in our hospital now as we have just implemented computerized physician order entry (literally just last week was the start date). I don't think it's fair to blame the physicians and nurses - sometimes it is the hospital and i

I see many physicians using an iPad in the hospital to access the hospitals EMR system in a very cumbersome way - they log into the hospitals servers, so they are then in a Windows setting, then log into the desktop version of the hospitals

It's still unusual for a company the size of Sony to reach out to someone like that. What's more is that it's now on Hacker News - so it's bigger news than Sony probably ever intended it to be.
