Yeah, I don’t get the panic. We’re not on any good trajectory here. All signs point to suck. At least we have a chance to pivot.

Yes, I copied your prompt exactly into a fresh context. I’m not surprised by the diversity of responses, that’s pretty common since there’s likely a random seed for each chat instance. And the logical inconsistency that you can then correct

I’ll counter that pessimism by saying that humanity is weighed down by an enormous number of unsolved existential risks. We appear to be barreling towards the edge of our resource cliff. AI could be our magic bullet.

Right now, no one knows. I think we are all exactly as shocked as you are. These LLMs have been a toy for so long that it’s hard to really know where we are going to end up in 5 years. But personally, if CS is your passion and top choice, g

It’s not dissociative identity disorder, it’s a personality ensemble model. A majority of voices agree!

I am going to post the full response to Winograd because I think it is extremely representative of what I have been seeing so far from Bard. I can’t help but be incredibly disappointed. Bard: Yes, I am familiar with Terry Winograd's Ph

Don’t be sad. Go grab one of the publicly available foundation models and start hacking! The most capable is LLaMA, though there are some open questions about if model weights can be protected by copyright or trade secret.

I can agree with that. It’s hard to point to a single moment. It was more like a 20 year assimilation of everything. Google search was the biggest watershed I can think of. The iPhone was incredible, but also a giant step backwards as it ha

Yes, I think so which seems fairly ridiculous that anyone could be fooled by Bard. Maybe this is a smaller version of the model for faster performance?

Sure, there is some bias against Google at this point and it is well earned. However think think of there was anything impressive about Bard, you would be seeing some commenters talk about it. All I see are people being disappointed with th

I also got access and started feeding my prompt history with GPT-4 through to compare the responses. Overall Bard seems to hallucinate much more often. Its responses tend to be short and lacking detail. It often fails to follow key parts of

Nice work! This was very engaging. I could tell there was a human hand at work, though it’s extra spooky not knowing just how much has come from the machine.

Not the API itself, but the LLM behind it was a codex model. They are essentially saying Codex era models are obsolete so that means an upgrade announcement is probably only a few weeks off.

Interesting. That probably means a Github copilot upgrade to a GPT-4 model is incoming.

Clearly the solution is to have two displays refreshing on a 30 second alternating cycle! Maybe add a third black and white high frequency screen displaying an arrow pointing to the currently active screen. I jest:) It actually really makes

They are measurably behind since they have yet to put a LLM into a single product or even let anyone outside of the company try any of their models. Meanwhile, Microsoft has fully launched GPT in Bing and is driving ahead with deep office i

I think you should relax. Even if this AI hype is 100% real, we will be running massive IT projects for 20 years to convert everything over to AI run. Realistically, it will probably find a use case for a few niches, but not take over all w

But now GPT can code. It’s possible the narrative is changing. I’m NOT saying that software engineers are getting replaced, but the kinds of things you learn in a boot camp, gluing APIs together and searching StackOverflow for code snippets

I did leave the big city, though I don’t really agree with your reasons for wanting to. They sound unrealistic to me. In the modern world, the news, internet, social media and politics are everywhere, and everyone is plugged into them 24&#x

I think that what you are saying is now obvious to every western company and they are in the process of getting out or diversifying their supply chain. If China can lock down their country for years over Covid, they are capable of anything.

Hacker News is a better social internet. So are niche subreddits and discords. Trying to build a big tent for millions and billions is a dead end. There's almost nothing relevant to all of us collectively, nothing interesting and reall

Tried your question and GPT-4 seemed to do better than what I had come up with? Unless I am missing something? My own thought was that the motor skill for catching is more complex. GPT said, to summarize: 1. The motor skill of catching is
