What the heck is real reasoning with unlimited memory? Human minds are quite limited! Our short term context length is certainly not 30k words. Most psychological research says it’s about 7 items.

I suspect the reasoning is getting overwhelmed by the prior data. Try it again, but this time make up nonsense words for the three items.

I smile every time I hear this argument. To me it’s obviously false and head in the sand. There was a moment, with GPT-2 where it felt exactly right, then with GPT-3 where you could see a glimmer of something emerging. Now GPT-4 has somethi

It’s funny that in 2009 this must have seemed so cold and heartless. Now we just send an email and shut off the logins.

How can a supposedly serious professional evaluator of intelligence fail to mention if they were using 3.5 or GPT-4? I also fail to see any mention of the test questions could have been in the training set or if there were efforts to make s

It seems quite obvious that a major global conflict comes with a cost. The main question becomes, is the cost worth it? Inaction also has a cost, possibly less cost in the short term while the profits keep rolling in and more cost in the lo

We have a cottage where we are considering getting starlink at. This service still seems like a game changer to me. If 4g is also available, running a router with dual-wan sounds like a great option to mitigate connection dropouts. We will

I think we have the pieces already to create AIs that will match human performance on most intellectual work that people do in companies. I believe that you will see systems that combine several LLMs in a conversation of generation and eval

I keep keep hearing people claim we are at the end of corpus scaling, but that seems totally unfounded. Where has it been proven you can’t running the training set through in multiple epochs in randomized order? Who’s to say you can’t colle

I think the first, most important thing you can do is relax, be kind to yourself and take a news and AI break. I think you’ve been reading many hot takes that swing either way, sky is falling or nothingburger. No one knows at this point. Y

Are you saying that DC was worse than SF? I find that hard to believe. SF has worse coverage, fewer trains and felt much more dangerous. I was able to live in DC for 4 years without a car but with a bike and my walking shoes and found it a

Who comes up with this stuff anyway? There are a half dozen old terms for people with an intellectual disability. Most of them are still common and accepted in speech, (dumb, idiot, fool, stupid, imbecile). How did this one word get elevate

Valve should get a free/discounted deck into the hands of every developer over a certain number of sales on steam. This is such a great story!

I think you have a hardware defective dock. Try an RMA. No reason you should be having power issues unless you are powering a usb-c display or some other high drain device off the dock.

I was in your boat, but the sale and the announcement not to expect a v2 for a few years pushed me over the edge. And once I got it in hands I realized that it’s fantastic as it is and that there was really no need to hold out. Im sure V2 w

I have a 4k TV that’s too far from my couch for optimal viewing, but is what it is. The apparent screen size of the deck on my couch is pretty similar to the TV. I can’t see all that resolution from 10 feet away anyway.

From what I understand, it gives games a good lower end hardware target to hit with optimal visuals. It also pushes games to add solid controller support on PC and be Linux/proton friendly. Some anti-cheat supports Linux now as a resul

The steam deck on paper has higher specs than a PS4. PS4 can push 1.8 tflops on an older architecture and steam deck can do 3.3 on a more modern architecture. People’s real world experience on several games seems to put the Steam deck consi

Drones are a good example of something that couldn’t exist with the old battery tech. Hobbyist RC aircraft always ran on small fuel engines. And the laws of physics around energy required to lift a craft are not changing anytime soon.
