I honestly cannot tell what the person to whom you're responding is saying. But if they suggesting people are working multiple jobs at a higher rate than the historical average, they would, in fact, be incorrect according to fed data:

Can you elaborate, maybe point to a data source on this? I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to say. The prime age labor participation rate isn't out of line with historical trends: https://fred.stlouisfed.org&

The yield curve inversion has predicted the last 9 out of the 5 recessions. Could it also be that the two-year yield is higher (than the 10-year yield) because people expect the fed to lower the FFR after a couple of years after inflation h

fp-ts is great and still has active development but it has also been folded into effect-ts ( https://github.com/Effect-TS/ ) which is based on Scala ZIO. I think long-term it will have a larger ecosystem, more active dev

Yeah, it's been a second since I've used IntelliJ/Spring, but I recall that being the case as well. Gradle is something I've never messed with, but that makes sense.

I still don't understand some of this -- I developed in Java for 5+ years. >JVM runtimes have a relatively high startup cost I think many people are okay with that when developing server software that's going to run weeks at a

I've seen so many variations of this comment on HN and I'm still not sure why not having to deal with the JVM is a major plus.

Who is bailing them out though? My understanding is that SVB still had cash and 10 year MBS that cover 90%+ of deposits if those MBS were able to mature. And because of that when another bank takes over these accounts, they will (as a condi

This is what I don't understand about the conversation online. What you described (what I've heard is likely to happen) isn't a bailout. Yet many people are talking about this being a bailout. In this scenario, SVB shareholde

You're allowed mutability, even in languages like Haskell.

That could be the case. I've never used it. I did "learn" it to use a library (fp-ts) in typescript which basically brings Haskell into typescript and I love the concepts. It's certainly changed the way I think about pro

Does Haskell treat mutability as an afterthought? I thought constructs like IORef were for cases in which mutability is needed.

I thought nest was somewhat straight forward, minus the use of the angular module system, but I spent years using Java/Spring. That said, nest didn't have a component scan so you have to manually specify services per module. Havin

Sure, but Netflix uses HLS, I assume, and doesn't have segments that are 15 minutes in length. So if you did drop a tcp packet, you're more likely to have lower quality for 10-20 seconds, not 15 minutes.
