An example of how this could play out is how easily Google and other big tech cooperate with government requests nowadays (compared to, say, a decade or so ago, when Apple was openly fighting the FBI in court to not be forced to make a tool

Even many HN users instantly resort to misdirection via comparisons to humans or nebulous upcoming AGI instead of acknowledging that we have to live with these limitations for the forseeable future.

That's a risk they all take. AMD and NVIDIA (or Intel) have the same thing happen all the time, one of them has to go first, and usually there's not much of a gap between their announcements, and thus each risks being overshadowed

Is ignoring M4's existence really 'wrong' given the fact that it isn't in macbooks yet? Are the benchmarks they mention possible on the iPad? Do the iPads benchmark similarly to the macbooks with the same chip? Does Appl

The issue isn't updates breaking stuff, the issue is forced reboots when I have something open for which I don't just want the OS throwing away the state for. The IT dept. comment is pretty accurate though, just as dismissive, po

I think the point is that if we're standardizing a lunar time, it should be done with as much precision as possible. Kind of like how we have very precise benchmarks for what our units of length are in terms of fundamental properties.

This is circular reasoning. You can't convince people to not use it if you don't criticize it, and of course the odds of that succeeding are zero if you don't even try. Also, you literally have to force people to not use goog

They wouldn't have to do that if Windows didn't insist on being forceful with updates even for power users, who can be trusted to decide when to update. Lately it's not as bad since you can delay/disable forced reboots f

Particle physics relating to electrons in particular is probably the most important part of particle physics, considering how much of our modern society is based on increasingly precise control over them.

Starship carries ~1200t of propellant, of which ~950t is LOX, and 250t is Methane. While yes, most of that will be burned off by landing, it'll still need enough to return to lunar orbit. Even if we assume that only 10% of the fuel is
