Oooh, false dichotomy. Because you used big words you must be right. See my below comment: Open source does NOT equal standards. They are different. Further, the picture in this article: http://mashable.com/2012/01/10/google-launches-so

Sure they're free and open source. But they aren't STANDARDS. You seem to be unable to look objectively at the situation. While ActiveX was closed source, by extending the web with non standard technology the end result will be the same,

Just look at Chrome. On one hand, Google claims undying support for web standards, and on the other they're adding a bunch of non-standard features to their browser trying to get people tied in. This is very similar to MS and IE6 + Active

Did you even read the article? There are a number of quotes from people in the article that say what Google is doing here is definitely wrong.

I can't help but be reminded of early 90's Microsoft when I read about what Google is doing lately. They're definitely on the "extend" phase of embrace, extend, extinguish. They're creating their own little insular community. Search resul

Some time ago I was on a very large project where the hired design firm refused to create any art assets until the IA was completely finalized. I had never heard of an IA at the time, and in retrospect I have nothing but disdain for the co

Why do the rights holders need any more protection than they already have? Are you mad? Look at major league baseball and the NFL. They have currently managed to remove almost any shred of their product from the internet. Same goes for D

I applaud all of these anti-SOPA efforts. What I can't figure out is why our legislators are hell bent on passing this thing. I've not heard of a single rational person being individually in favor of this bill. Now, that certainly doesn't

Having spent the better part of 3 years creating REST services with .NET, I strongly recommend you do NOT use traditional WCF. The WCF Web API stuff looks interesting but still seems immature. I've found ASP.NET MVC to be the best tool for

I didn't see this in the comments above, but the whole time I'm thinking to myself: 50k at the 40% bonus tax rate == 30k. That's still nice, but that's significantly less than if they just paid you that over the course of 5 years.

You're quite right, I'm not his audience. But here's the thing, I don't believe him. It's clear to me he loves a big audience (and the attention that goes with it). He's arrogant and also rubs me as a narcissist. I feel like he's just not

You've obviously never used the Telerik components. If you want to build the thing in their demo the controls are fabulous. If you want to build anything else you'll suffer more than you can imagine. I've had the misfortune to use severa

For one thing, with Prism, binding events to view model methods was a giant pain, specifically if you wanted to pass event args. I know I ended up having to write a number of attached properties to handle different event binding scenarios.

You know it's interesting that you're seeing lots of pain going the other way. I realized part of my issue with Silverlight was just how different it was from what I was used to. I don't like things I don't understand :) That being said, I
