Sample size of 1, but I have a friend who does buy the refills and charges the original unit. Every shop that sells the combination units also seems to sell the refills (at least around here).

Yeah not sure really. I thought these time of use tariffs were intended for charging EVs and using heat pumps, not charging batteries and selling the energy straight back to them later on in the day. But when you put it like that (decentral

Thanks! I will check out Solaredge. Biggest thing right now with the heat pumps is lack of consistency of software. Just looking at Havenwise ( https://www.havenwise.co.uk/ ) and my manufacturer isn't supported.

I'm definitely coming round on the idea of a heat pump. My house was built in 2002 and still has the original gas boiler that was installed from then. I'm hopeful that I have enough insulation, but I've been told I may have m

Sorry for late reply, exactly that yeah - so the browser doesn't complain. I'm not worried about the security of HTTP over wireguard or anything like that. And domain names are easier to remember than ports so... http://

Which one did you go for? I have a raspberry pi 4 with 8gb RAM which is fine for now but may be on the look out for a replacement in the coming years.

I use Tailscale for a bunch of self hosted services on a raspberry pi in my house. Port numbers and TLS certs are my current main problems with this setup but it's not annoyed me quite enough yet to do anything about it.

I'm not sure that's true about the UK and prescription glasses. When I moved back here I packed my glasses up in storage so was going to be without for 6/8 weeks before our stuff arrived. I went onto Glasses Direct[1] and ord

Thanks for sharing that Doctorow post, I had not seen that before. While the specific examples are of course dated (hello altavista and Napster), it still rings mostly true.

Cool thanks! I'll have to spend some more time looking into this. Do you have any recommendations for a DNS server to run inside Tailscale?

Have you managed to get TLS working with a setup like this? I have a custom domain that isn't used but I'd like to point it to a machine that's on Tailscale. Do you just put your Tailscale DNS on public DNS servers or do you

This is my first time hearing about Jellyfin, and wow what a breath of fresh air compared to the typical hyper growth model employed by a lot of OSS projects. Any Jellyfin users here that can vouch for it? I currently have a SMB share on a

Yeah I've investigated it a couple of times but never pulled the trigger with self-hosting. Could run it on my rpi and access via Tailscale, but seems like something that should be provided by the email provider that I pay money for. T

CalDAV and CardDAV support missing is the only reason I still have a google account. I understand it's "tough" with e2ee but adding support to the bridge would be perfectly sufficient, then at least I could use local Calendar

Yeah this is the thing that confuses me about this, it's priced the same as some mid-range smartphones. It seems like you're paying a significant premium to have the control over which apps you can use strictly enforced. If that&#

Fair enough. I also think London doesn't really have a culture of driving into it. I could drive into London but with the sprawl; likely inability to find suitable parking; traffic and congestion charge, I never would. It's quic

This is wild. I had no idea of the scope of Starlink satellites in orbit. What is the life cycle of one of these satellites? How long do they last in orbit? Can they be controlled where they crash land down? How many different versions of t
