Yeah, small, invite-only "walled garden" style communities are definitely the future of the web. There has always been those of course, but I think they will just end up becoming the default, rather then the fringes. And the thing

I agree with the OP, you have impeccable taste. I fairly recently watched a documentary on Dieter Rams and have been somewhat obsessed since, looking forward to going through your back catalogue of posts. Whenever I get the urge to go full

I think the end result for email is going to be the same as with mobile numbers. Just block everything by default unless they are in your contacts. Enormous amounts of email will be generated but no one will ever see it.

What you're describing as a "super-genuis" is just someone that thinks they know it all after reading some introductionary material. They don't know what they don't know so they think they're "done".

I write fund management software and the worst possible requirement you can ever read is "on business days". When you consume data and trade in global markets, figuring this out is non-trivial and usually process specific.

"VCware" is a nice succinct term to use, I hope it catches on in the wider tech/power user scene and the first comment about any launch is whether it's "vcware". Of course it will be a bit awkward here on HN du
