So having a health database, drivers license database, social security, banking etc are all ok but creating a proper national ID system would somehow push it over the edge to where an authoritarian government can come about and take control

It's hilarious just how bad OEM car software is. One of those many moments in my day to day that I realize how bad 90% of software we interact with is absolute trash. ATM machines, credit card readers, parking meters, TVs, microwaves,

The problem is that you need to architect, build, and maintain that system for years, or decades, to come. That requires an in-house software team that knows what it's doing. Building that first version that "works" is easy.

I recently bought a property that has a cooling system similar to this. The difference in my case is that there are tunnels underneath the foundation containing rocks. Once the temp inside the house reaches a certain point, there are fans t

Most laptops don't have GPS or accelerometer / gyroscope. Would be useless for turn-by-turn without those.

Has there ever been a successful city built from scratch? I feel like organic growth is the only way, unless you can force people to move there. This example always jumps to mind: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Californi

The problem is that the modern tech interview process was created by large companies like Google. They needed an “unbiased”, scalable process to hire thousands of engineers with the main goal of reducing false-positives. Most companies don’

There are 100W folding panels for under $100. As you get into the range of smaller panels, you see less savings due to overhead, demand, etc.

Reddit was crazy understaffed in its first 10 years or so. They could barely keep the site up, let alone develop new functionality. Reddit gold was born from that situation. Condé Nast didn’t give a single fuck about them. As far as finding

Maneuvering at low speeds is all in the rear brake. It smooths out the power delivery and reduces latency when you need more/less power. I took the test on an SV650 and barely passed. Years later, once I learned to use the rear brake,

That's not really extravagant. I'm assuming it's just a meeting/work room with an oval office theme. It's a very cheap imitation of the oval office. They would have had to buy a lot of the same furniture pieces eith

I've lived in many homes and a couple high-rises. The noise isolation in the high-rises was miles ahead of that in the homes. I'm guessing the concrete construction is a pretty big factor in this.
