I didn't grow up rich or culturally connected in New York. I went to one of the few universities in the US where you can pursue a dual degree in a conservatory level music curriculum and a top level engineering program simultaneously.

Without respecting US IP, hard to imagine there will be a lot of respect for Chinese IP from the US. Maybe it doesn't matter?

From what I remember reading a while back, 70% of corn in the US goes to animal feed thus making meat a very subsidized industry transitively. Entire US states' agricultural product won't be needed and can be shifted over to othe

It is a good vegan/vegetarian product though... I hear what you are saying but for someone in my shoes (I'm vegetarian, my wife is not), this makes life so much easier.

Vegetarian here. Ugh. First: The vegetarians that I know don't like meat. So making a veggie burger that tastes like the thing they don't like is just dumb. Guessing anecdotally, I know as many vegetarians as you. Almost every

On this post, many commentators seem convinced amazon will have issues resulting from lack of trust. Any leading indicators that would bring some credibility to this claim that anyone can share? In general, the HN community seems to be a

Thanks real_cost. I have been thinking this way for a long time but was unaware of a formal name for this idea/system. Glad to have a name to put to a concept and signed up for your mailing list. In general, I do think we can price th

For anyone in a place with options, My suggestion is simply switching to a Net Neutrality proponent. Ditching my comcast today in favor of Sonic fiber. Cheaper, supports net neutrality, and waaayyy faster :)

I think not being able to afford these things is the goal though. The trick is in how you do it. The simplest example is just phasing in a 'negative externality tax'. First year is x * .1, second year is x * .2, etc. I think the

lots of literature is available on this (granted, not always clear what their source of info is). In general, many funds at that stage are playing the unicorn game (and many raising 100M are already a unicorn or at least not too far away).

Agreed for the most part. With that said, startups at the seed and pre-A don't need or care about any of that. Startups with 100M in financing might, although most likely don't care that much either. Skills startups do care abou

I have always been fascinated by Air conditioning. Back in highschool, I wrote a paper all about how South Florida became inhabitable as a result fo AC. After college, I started an air conditioning related startup oddly enough.

100%. I do a lot of renders for our marketing from time to time. Because its currently done on a CPU, anything even a little complex takes many hours to get retina renders out without fuzz.

Do you have some examples you can link to of something you have rendered in a few seconds? Fusion has some sort of simpler preview, my guess is that its some closed form lighting solver and in certain contexts it can look ok but for photore

Would absolutely pay up if I could get realtime raytracing for Fusion360 (Industrial/Mechanical Design software). Waiting for renders to bake only to find out that the lighting needs to be adjusted slightly can be frustratingly slow.
