And what happens when you're 18 and get cancer? Building up may work for dental because even in the most catastrophic case, the costs have a ceiling, but your overall health doesn't have these kinds of ceilings. Also, every denta

I don't think OP intended to mean exact replica, but more or less, why aren't mid-range sedans made to look more like the exotics. In other words, more corvettes, less impalas.

I challenge you to find a 20-year period that the S&P 500 did not return 7+% annualized returns AFI. There are some, but not many. I further challenge you to find a 30-year period where the S&P 500 did not return 7+% annualized ret

This is another lie. I make $150k/yr and could retire in a decade (barring a black swan event) and I just started my career 2 years ago. I live in a luxury townhome that is less than a 15 minute commute by bike or car to work, a trade

This is absolutely nuts to me. At 200k you should be able to put away 80k+/yr if you are even semi-serious about FIRE. At that rate with a 7 percent return, adjusted for inflation, after 20 years you'd have 3.5MM in assets which

The whole point of index funds is to insulate yourself from a single company failing. What happens when 1 of the 500 S&P 500 companies even declines is that it is substituted for with another, stronger company. Index funds are not sta

Nitpick, but both a traditional and Roth provide tax-free growth. A Roth allows tax-free distribution is what I believe you intended to say.

All you are saying is that the US needs to continue to service its debt without defaulting. Since there is no sign that we will default now or later, this is simply more fear mongering.

One caveat. A married couple where the other person doesn't work can still contribute to a traditional IRA and the couple gets to deduct it on their taxes. The limit for this is 186k and it is called a spousal IRA.
