Facebook has an SDK written in PHP so you should be able to work with that. It's pretty simple if you follow the examples. As of yet there is no official SDK for Ruby though the unofficial implementations are pretty decent and easy to work

Agreed, my group of friends organise stuff using email threads. Events (theatre, concerts etc.) are put in a Google Calendar for us all to see. It's really useful to e.g. keep track of people's travelling plans, birthdays and other such stu

This is what I also do, any step in a derivation I would glance over when read must be fully understood and proved whenever I write it down. Every non-trivial result in my math books is written down so I can fully comprehend what's going on

Wouldn't work for individual songs, this is where algorithms like the ones Shazam and LaLa use come into play since they'll actually look at the audio file. Getting this correct is pretty important or you'll end up with the wrong songs. Pir

I use MatLab mostly for statistical purposes, together with EViews (statistical software geared towards econometrics). This could certainly ease the transition towards R and replace both aforementioned tools.

I was halfway a weekend project to find out GAE can't do LIKE-statements or an equivalent thereof, only with some hacking this is sort of possible. Moved the project to RoR and got it working in no time. Another project I had couldn't be do

With a Codebasehq account also comes a free deployhq account. You commit changes to your git-branch and deployhq will ssh into your production server and update the code. Extra commands (e.g. rake db:migrate) can also be executed. It's basi

I've seen this happen on occasion and it's the one thing that really pisses me off about Spotify. I expect music that's in my playlists to actually be there when I want to play it. I pay for it, it's legal and it earns the labels more than

I've often wondered why MailChimp doesn't offer more support for transactional mails. I know there is some stuff in the API but it seems bolted on (am I wrong?). I would really like to use the standard templating for email campaigns that Ma

How are they dealing with Google AppEngine's support for 2.5 when Django reaches 1.4? Or is AppEngine also expected to upgrade to 2.6 (or higher) anytime soon?

IIRC the property overloading in PHP is slow, especially compared to hardcoding the getters and setters, so you're better off hardcoding them. Property overloading in itself is a neat feature for syntactic sugar, for example an object with
