That's pretty ridiculous. The marketing department of GM isn't worried about the best deal. It's great if they can save money, but how much could GM really be saving with, oh I don't know, let's just say, Google? Keep in mind they spent $10

Well if Facebook ads DO work (at least for GM) I don't believe they would have pulled their campaign no matter what ulterior motives they may have. Sales are sales.

You are missing the point of his post which I believe is valid- that programming in and of itself is nothing but a skill to carry out a task. He isn't dissuading beginners from learning to code or suggesting that people shouldn't. Just that

I couldn't agree with this more, especially the bit about how software developers are software addicts. A lot (not all) believe software is the cure for all ills and any endeavor that doesn't have software at its core is not worthwhile. Cod

It's no more dangerous to "do a startup" now than it's ever been, it only seems like it's harder because everybody is doing the same stupid fashion/flash sale/monthly curated box of shit startup ideas. A successful business finds a need or

I agree with everything he wrote, except for the predicted outcome. With the housing crisis, there was a bubble that burst because the credit markets froze and suddenly nobody had access to capital. That is what caused home prices to collap

What difference does it make? Jobs didn't make his name as an engineer. Technology of any kind is a means to an end. Knowing how to code a site is very much like knowing how to lay brick. It's a specialized skill to complete a certain task.

I don't have any connection to YC (other than this site) but I don't agree. I think it is belittling to say "that other place that takes equity."

Heh, as a developer with business credentials as well, I find it somewhat ridiculous that it takes such a hostile tone towards business people towards the end. You do realize that 1) many businesses are needed for which designers/developers

Heh, I called up once for help with the sandbox and the CSR told me that I was mistaken- there is no sandbox or any way to test transactions on the site. They must have a very rigorous training program there.

Mark Cuban is a clueless publicity whore. But he does have a lot of marketing ability because of his fame. There is a pervasive misconception that if somebody is wealthy, then whatever they say is right, regardless of their domain expertise

Well my point was that if you can't raise money and you aren't making profits, then your business sucks. That was poorly worded, but Amazon and Twitter never had a problem raising capital when they needed it because there was a huge amount

Upon reading this again I realize that you must not understand what a deficit is. A deficit occurs when you spend more than you make. It is the opposite of a surplus. If you earn $5,000 a month but spend $6,000 a month, you are running a de
