Same. I have an M1 Max Studio and it's just laughing at the little workloads I throw at it (pro photo editing, music production, software dev, generally all at the same time). It just never sweats AT ALL - it feels like a decade from o

ok but also two drones crashing isn't "more" of a problem than one drone crashing really. Sounds like the anamoly here was a very unsafe landing zone (which is outside the customer agreement as it happens). small steel cables

i mean they both flew into invisible drone traps. I don't know that amazon engineers should be expected to see e.g. a moving small steel cable under tension. That and customers are required to select safe delivery drop zones. I would l

That sounds like an engineer-week of work not really a ground-up systemic problem. But fair criticism.

Two drones doesn't really mean anything if they were following a similar flight plan to make a delivery at the same location right?

For commercial deliveries I would expect them to designate a landing zone guaranteed to be free of obstacles vertically. I'm guessing that installing radar detailed enough to see swinging cables is nearly impossible.

I clicked around and the README links to this python lib: https://github.com/tcsenpai/pybooklid Probably a nicer interface for anyone who wants to play with this :)

Love the term multimodal WFH. Like you I have diverse, equipment-laden hobbies: guitar/piano/dj/drums/photography and work from home. It's really hard to feel like you can quickly get to all of those activities, wit

I'm pretty sure this is want I want to work on for the next decade if anyone's looking for a world class UI engineer.

build a scheme interpreter in python = best of both worlds?? I love SICP - easily in my top ten most influential CS books. But I've basically never seen a real Scheme job. I do think it's reasonable to at least try to instill both

huge names. As a UI engineer of this era (late 90s early 2ks) I also read Raskin and Tufte. 37 signals had a lot of good writing in the early 2000s. But great set of UI/HCI thinkers for anyone interested.

If you trust the CEO's leadership, work hard. The CEO has to worry about runway, not engineers. If not, I'd say make a data-backed case for another course of action, or find another job. Most CEOs I've worked with would be op

Yeah this is super important IMO. Set your own standards for what that means. Makes it much easier to handle the slings and arrows of normal 9-5 headaches, and to understand when you're being pressed to do things you wouldn't be p

I do feel there's a leap in the ability to remain in flow while typing once you're past a certain (high) level of proficiency. Looking at what you're typing really interrupts flow for me, at least when writing prose. If I hav

Not sure it's true that there are a finite number of "atoms" or particles with quantum fluctuations + uncertainty around singularities but would love a smart person to chime in on that.

I'm noting the use of "stream" and that the upper_case function is a generator (see the `yield` keyword) which I take to mean any asynchronous process could be placed there. e.g. a call to a chatbot api.

Kinda scary the lifetime profit is less than what a sr developer might expect at a big tech firm. I agree this was successful and assume it's rewarding in many other ways! But still...
