Thanks for the feedback @spokey. What would you consider a sweetspot price-point for you at the 5 person test? We discount down the more users you add to the test: 3 at $249 and 5 at $399. As for your questions: 1) Generally 10-15 minutes

True. The point I was trying to get across is that lock-in doesn't necessarily stop devs or people from jumping in. The potential to save or make money is to me the more powerful driver.

I obviously don't have hard numbers on this but I can say from my own experience we purchased macs exclusively to build iOS apps for clients. We run a pretty lean shop so we viewed buying macs just for web dev a luxury item. We spent the m

Not so sure that's the driver here. Many devs have bought into the iOS ecosystem. This certainly isn't cheap: macbooks, imacs, iphones, ipod touches, ipads. It's also a pretty deep dive to get into. On the web side, I really think cost is

Apple does a pretty good job of this, no? And to be fair, the Dreamcast was about as open as a 7/11, but that didn't fair too well for Sega.

My worry with your argument (if I'm following correctly) is why should we compare/base US immigration policy on the policy of other nations? If we accept that US policy is more favorable than others, is it purely acceptable to meet the low

Just filled out the opt-in form ( https://secure.delicious.com/settings/optin ). Can't wait to see what they do with it. Note to the new owners: if you charge, I'll gladly pay.

I venture to say that even anonymously, people would exaggerate their salaries. Perhaps this could be curved downwards though to get a good estimate.

I may be in the minority (I doubt it), but I have no problem paying for content. This includes books and music. As a now-hobbyest DJ, Beatport was a godsend in terms of being able to get hard to find music and at a high quality. Paying 0.99

I've used both and performance-wise my team didn't see any drastic differences. We switched to EC2 mostly because of RightScale (which now also runs over top of RackSpace). It's not cheap, but running on RightScale has made server mainten

One of the projects in my CS program using recursion was a 6-degrees of Kevin Bacon game. It was neat and real-world practical IMO.

I just don't see this as a viable business (big enough market or a market sustainable by charging a large enough margin). It'd probably be a fun project to take on at one of the Hack-Weekend type events.

AltaVista is owned by Yahoo. No engineering or product personnel were allocated to it when I was at Y!, it's essentially on maintenance mode.

We had to do this a few times with large databases. To save some time we recreated the table structure we had (use something like Navicat to make life really easy and copy over the structure). We then exported our DBs into CSV files and use

Am I the only one who's first thought that came to mind when reading up on Color was the Sonar SuperComputer App in Batman: The Dark Knight? I don't mean this to be silly but the concept seems very similar in terms of data and perspective
