Whenever we have a service outage from one of our providers( dns, payment gateway, AWS, etc )we check twitter to determine if it is widespread to more than just us. It is almost always more timely than the providers' own status pages.

Over the course of the past few years, a lot of the overengineering mindset has been leaving the Java community. Bruce Tate and others have had a significant impact on this shift. More dynamic languages becoming available for the jvm has

This is not always true. Plenty of founders who spend time working instead of networking end up with a sparse network and very few people even aware of their success.

What? The person who works on perhaps seven deals over a five year investment cycle is 'way busier' than the person scratching to bring a new concept implementation to market as quickly as possible? Did I understand your position correctly

I am surprised such an obviously political story would be submitted by someone like Winer. That is, I would have expected him to abide the guidelines.

If the national reputations have been damaged, it is the fault of the nations in question, not that of the nameless executive. Nobody forced the prosecutorial abuses explicated in this article. Be assured, however, that the thin blue line

This. We're running a startup environment inside an income-producing business, and I really do think it's the best of both worlds. If you are in this position, you will not be at the mercy of the investment climate for survival when the bu

We have a few million objects stored in S3 and our average object size is only ~40k. Plenty of people use cloudfront as a streaming CDN, though. Those assets would be far larger, obviously.

Similarly, we started out in my cofounder's grandmother's house and ran our original site on a $20 shared host running a horribly unstable cgi-bin with perl. My cofounder took calls and fulfilled orders himself.

This is true, but bootstrapped businesses with steady growth and a profitable model don't exactly fit the interests of venture capitalists, of whom the author of this article is one.

Unless you're Werner Vogels, in which case you mandate whatever the implementation team feels like using, as long as it scales and adheres to the service interface specifications.

Even if you don't include any Java-the-language material, I highly suggest adding some solid foundation on Java-the-platform. Android developers should always understand the rudiments of the jvm, java bytecode, dalvik bytecode, the differe
