My guess is because you offer less product than GitHub, and charge more for it. Unless you make your value proposition clear, I don't see any reason for anybody to use your service.

Did you ever consider the possibility that "Beau" is not actually a recruiter, but rather a mid-level troll with a creative cover story?

This is the correct answer. Sure you can work smarter; sure, you can come up with superior ideas; but time is almost always the limiting factor in execution. It's unpopular to rally against the cheerleading "you can do it!" crowd here, but

Yeah, you're missing something. It's 2011, and we're in the middle of a huge bubble. The only thing that matters to most new startups is "getting funded". Making money is merely a sideshow to the main event, which is growing traffic and

I am a bit confused by this post. You have a multi-million dollar project that runs on a port of Quake 2?

My company falls into the category you describe. We're doing well, but not large, sexy, or hipster-approved enough to be covered by the tech/startup press.

If you believe the premise and results of the '10000 hours to expert' research cited by Gladwell's "Outliers", then the obvious conclusion is that time invested is highly correlated with learning.

Online store owner here. We do collect and pay sales tax for California residents, but not residents of other states. The reason we don't collect sales tax for other states is: 1. We aren't required to. 2. Doing so would be a disincentive

"We don't have deadlines" What? How is this even possible? Even if one doesn't set internal deadlines, I can't imagine avoiding integration commitments with any number of third parties, whether they be strategic partners, clients/customer

Being the cofounder of a reasonably successful bootstrapped company, I mostly agree with you, and I believe that in bubble environments such as the current one, funding has become an end unto itself. However, sometimes there are circumstanc

Ah, I was hoping for my request to be fulfilled. Such is life on Offer HN. Do you have an ETA for availability of the service and a preview of what the pricing will be?

We chose to enter a business that has been saturated since 1999. Why? Because it was quite clear that most of the companies in the space were doing it wrong and inefficiently. We identified plenty of things that we could do better, and

Because Java shops/developers were their initial target customer, and Java is decidedly uncool among the current crop of startup kiddos. Additionally, there's not a significant social or mobile aspect to what they do.

Those of us who are running profitable bootstrapped companies tend to put less effort into getting our name in the tech or business press. It is more important that we get our name into the minds of our customers, as our cash flow does not
