As someone who makes technology purchasing decisions, this article infuriates me. Datasheets and a pricing structure are fundamentally more efficient than sales snowjobs. The fact that this approach is apparently effective makes me weep f

No, but I have lended money to friends and in so doing destroyed said friendships. I refuse to lend money to any entity but my own business as a result. Human beings are fundamentally untrustworthy in the absence of explicit contracts, wh

The story of our origins is far too long to detail here. The very short edition is that we both had primary jobs and worked on the business in the evenings. After crossing the $1mm revenue mark, we decided to make it a fulltime thing.

" everybody that has a sister thinks 'that could be my sister'" Because ransacking the home of my brother is no big deal, according to modern gender politics, right?

I am not sure why you dismissed selling physical goods out of hand due to perceived complexity or cost barriers. When my company first began operations, my cofounder and I both had 'only a few hours a day to invest' as well.

"It's 3am and I've been drinking, but this seems feasible" I have come up with some astoundingly dumb ideas that were preceded by exactly the above thought. However, there was some sheer brilliance, as well.

ARIN lookup shows it being hosted at ThePlanet. Traceroute shows it terminating somewhere in or around Houston TX. So my guess is one or more boxes at ThePlanet's Houston datacenter.

We are not 'near' that point. The Rebecca Watson incident clearly demonstrates that we are already there.

A cursory look at the graph indicates that the only place women suffered was on their own code. Resume, phone skills, interpersonal skills, all great.

Your experience stands in stark contrast to what the general belief of the tech media, including HN, is. Specifically, that the job market for engineers is extremely tight and that even junior developers can name their price, that recruite

'Has this ever happened to anyone?' Yes. When we started our company, the space was already fairly crowded. We worked to do it better than they were. Also, if you ever intend to grow, you will have to get over your fear of legal problems.

Any organization that maintains an institutional fear of saying the "wrong thing" destroys its ability to effectively communicate such that the morale will have already hit rock bottom by the time someone actually does get offended.
