The usecase for async is spidering web pages or keeping a thousand chat sockets up, not for talking to a local database.

Looks fun, how can I get a couple without having to wait until December? Seems like that would be an easy way to boost conversion, to have them come in once a month. Guessing you don't have enough volume?

There's been incredible inflation in a few areas combined with modest inflation in other areas for decades.

Oh, never said they were malicious. But, they know how to get ice cream, and won't hesitate to try. Until the parents catch on that is.

I got a nice Casio PRO-TREK watch with all the fixins (sans wireless) for hiking. Am in the market for an enthusiast mirrorless camera, but haven't yet pulled the trigger. Some of them have wifi, which I'm trying to avoid.

The original post above framed the issue from a national-security angle. Whether "this side" is-doing/has-done it as well is an orthogonal concern, i.e. not pertinent here. We have a small but non-zero ability to affect chan

Sounds great. But doesn't get anyone from point A to point B. It's like being handed city maps of LA and NYC and told to drive from one to the other.

Kids copy what they see, obviously. I have a great story regarding Mr. Hankey from South Park. Morality is not the primary concern here in my mind. Submitting to sophisticated corporate manipulation and surveillance is not a path to succe

You may not be giving kids enough credit. Sure they may not be able to do these things at two but a four year old is a lot more cunning. I could give examples, but everyone's got 'em.

You seem to have taken a wrong turn somewhere. If you're not being sarcastic, I'd also recommend starting the thread over.

I'd invite you to read the grandparent's post again, all the way to the end. People tend to forget today but smoking was a very social activity done by all the 'cool kids.'

Did you parents have a hard time banning Playboy magazine and cigs, even though other kids had access?

Luckily we have good kids in the neighborhood. The big problem we do have is google/youtube crammed down our throat by the school district. Yes, interaction with an advertising/surveillance company is required to participate. Ev

When I've needed them I've needed them for multiple statements, once is not enough. Currently have to use plpgsql for this, which is half awesome, half abomination. :-D A single simple language sounds easier to learn.

The first one, the $ is redundant if braces required. Multi-line could be triple quoted. SQL, that one I'm not so sure.

Thanks, I've frequently wanted a query language that was designed after the 70s. The ideas are sound, but a modernized syntax with variables to reuse subqueries would be lovely. This looks like it. I noticed one issue though... pleas

Exceptions propagate up the call stack until caught, simple as that. I prefer this way, but there was one thing I didn't understand until Ned Batchelder taught me, how to layer them: - https://nedbatchelder.com/text&#x2
