By the same token, why bother discouraging people? It's the same as saying "stay in school, don't do drugs. Don't try to be a rockstar like me." There's only so much need for startups and so much money to go around. To me, the original arti

Being a horrible boss and being a successful executive are different things. Steve Jobs was a horrible boss by all accounts. The first chapter of Managing Humans addresses exactly this point.

Peopleware and Slack by Tom DeMarco are must-reads. I re-read Peopleware once every few years. I also liked Delivering Happiness (by @zappos) and Tribal Leadership, although they are more about organizations than management per se.

That is insane. Anything that you do on your own time, outside the company premises, and using your own resources (e.g. weekend or late-night hacking at home using your own computer, and not going through the company's VPN) SHOULD NEVER bel

They can have one advantage over AWS: customer service. That's what made IndexTank, we would have never made it as user-friendly without our close relationship with our users.

I'm biased, but I believe it's a fascinating topic. Many people would love to know the "magic" behind Google. When I studied Electrical Engineering (late 80s) the two most interesting topics to me were TV and microprocessors. Both concepts

I have a pair of Shure SE535 earphones and they are fantastic. Perhaps the ergonomics could be improved, but I cannot imagine how the audio quality could be better.

That test only compares the result links. It's missing a significant chunk of the experience: autocomplete, instant results, highlighting, social results, best-guess results, calculator functions, etc. It would have been a decent blind test

If you can tell that a bad interviewee is a good engineer, you've cracked the elusive interview code that everyone has been trying to figure out for decades. A teacher has an ongoing relationship with a student, so time is on their side. An
