I mean the problem is that we have quite good evidence of how to handle architecture and system designs problems. And it is not by finding them earlier. But by reducing their costs through looser coupling and incremental work. That is where

And yet the scientific study shows that these anecdotes are indeed anecdotes and seemingly not true.

I want to raise a point of order here. We do not have any good research backing "bugs found later in the process cost more to fix". If anything, the few empirical and solid dataset we have show no correlation, to at best really li

Yeah, there are schemes on this and Sir Wyn Williams seems keen and driven to make his enquiry as large as needed. So there is some hope we will learn more. But let's be clear here. Nothing can compensate the reality of what these peop

I mean sure, but it is also ok to delegate handling these to people with the proper psychological support.

Worse. They knew of the bugs and prosecuted postmaster for the discrepancy instead of accepting them as bugs.

And that is only the one we know of. There are thousands of cases that are hidden in the bowels of the post office court system Oh and the compensation are uh... let say hard to get the money for.

It is one of the biggest scandal of our time related to software. I ... want to recommend learning more about it but only do so with a strong stomach. Numerous people that rabbithole into this case end up running to a nearby bucket. It is..

Well then where is the money to develop safer language, from all the research and prototypes we have right now in this domain?

So... this is so funny because it feels like you totally missed my point. I did not talk of reading documentation because i am literally one of the person you should come to if you need something in the doc. I learned how to write elixir an

Tbf. While more money to allows stability of people involved would help, it would not really speed it up that much. Typescript had ms behind it and it still took a decade. At some point the engineering, experiments and learning take time an

I maintain erlang libraries. I contributed to OTP. I am from Elixir. I cannot agree. Erlang is a pita to with. From the lackluster test libraries, the lack of module aliasing, the atrocious UX of parse transform, and so much more. Erlang br

All I will add is... You are close to realising the problem. Financialization is a consequence not a cause. The cause is demographic. Why and how did pension funds grew so much need to own everything and get money? Spoiler: this happened in

Yes, the Erlang Abstract Format is at least half a dozen IR above the bytecode, and lowering this is done by the erlang compiler.

Actually it does because the chance of hitting strange edge cases grow significantly, as do the runtime of your deployment, plus networking problems risks.

The techempower benchmark are... Quite infamous in the elixir community. Long story short, they are running in debug mode, badly written, not optimised, with bad OS level settings. And every time the community have tried to contribute fixes

Yeah but then you have to handle a lot of the synchronization of memory. It is hard to make you realise what is possible on the erlang vm without having tried it. In particular, it is preemptive. This... Makes a lot of stuff easier.

You are the one saying it is for the sake of being vulgar and not to convey a necessary strong emotion. You can choose to cut yourself from this part of your humanity. That is your choice. But don't scowl at others as childish because

No but it is endemic to how we think about compilers up to now, and especially when the rust compiler arch was massively developed, more than 10 years ago. I recommend a watch of this for a recent take on trying to change how we think of th

Can i recommend you to take a look at effect handlers languages? It is not mainstream but it may prove useful for your thinking here. Effekt or Ocaml 5.0 new events handler system may help get ideas that help you achieve your goal here.
