But you don’t need to grasp anything deeply. You want to create something small and get a little bit of feedback quickly. When we teach math to children we don’t start with algebraic structures and proofs. We give them simple recipes. Later

You can pretty much do anything with a combination of refs, events and useEffect. It’s often fiddly and cumbersome though. Aside: That’s why I‘ve been gravitating towards approaches that have much simpler execution models. You can still do

I‘ve written a UI a few months ago with only lithtml and direct DOM manipulation and it worked pretty well. I needed to do calculations and reading bounding boxes from the DOM initially and on resize. Basically a hack to get around CSS limi

Imagine how much complexity, churn, standards etc. we could have avoided if they put a Scheme in Netscape (like they initially wanted). - language features like module loading, async, classes arrow functions etc. would be unnecessary or tri

On one hand this is hilarious. But on the other hand it's a way better system than the one above, because the side effect has a positive portion to it.

I agree with the criticism except that I believe that these products provide some core utility to us. One of our dogs was posted for adoption on FB for example. Although plain old websites + RSS are my preferred method.

English is not my first language, when I wrote this I was suspicious too. What I wanted so say is that, these structures want to promote people upwards based on expertise, effort, popularity etc. So the structure is in part based on meritoc

I see why they or others do this. But it’s a prime example of Goodhart‘s law. The incentives misalign with the overarching goals. It reminds me of the (very fun) book Bullshit Jobs by the late David Graeber. He categorized one of the types

With or without a family, the reality is that you work in spikes. You have times where you work much less than that on client projects, maybe just 50% of that, and use some of the "free" time to tinker, learn, improve your interna

Is that correct? I get a larger number. In either case, they said a single byte saved. Any amount of minification is going to save more than just a byte. It’s also incredibly low effort to do so.
