Anecdata, but watching the Waymo cars compared to Cruise (preban) was night and day. Before Cruise was banned in SF, I would often see them violate traffic laws and fail to navigate basic intersections. Waymo isn't perfect, but its bet

It feels like people talk about Ruby like how people talked about Perl 5 when Ruby was fresh. As much as we laud software that is "done," it seems like any language that fails to evolve is soon eclipsed. Yeah there was Perl 6, but

There are a bunch of AI based screeners out there that do this. They look for specific words, but also overall phrasing and tone. I think they have the same pitfalls and any other LLM app. You can also hire a resume writer but I am dubious

Honest question, are articles like this propaganda to make people accept less than ideal working conditions? I feel like I am constantly inundated by posts like this. Never do I see anything to contradict it. There is no real conclusion or

I think the Factorio equivalent would be more like licensing chip designs. It doesn’t have the same false scarcity as other games.

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head on why I would rather “waste” time in Factorio than program at my enterprise SWE job. Because it’s closer to being a historian than a builder.

Recruiters don't call up a business and just ask "how was X at their job?" They are given a list of referrals by the candidate. I am talking about situations where a toxic boss may say negative things for personal reasons. Cu

Something like this wouldn't even be legal in many areas, because employers are limited on the information they can share about employees beyond employment status. That is why referrals are person based and not company based. Also you

This game is definitely the spiritual successor of Supreme Commander and Total Annihilation. Funny thing, SupCom was almost 20 years ago, and it was was a successor of something only 10 years prior.

Replaced? I'm pretty sure for the majority of smartphone users, it is their first computer. You have to be above 25 and and live in a developed nation for you to have had a PC before a smartphone.

From a report's perspective, success of a 1:1 is if you feel like your manager is an ally or not. If your manager is willing to give you information, listen to your problems, say things a bit too spicy for public settings, and escalate

Another way to think about it is that UTC is a combination of UT1 and TAI. It’s kept within 1 second of UT1 and is always a fixed integer offset from TAI. TAI is an absolute time based on atomic vibrations. UT1 is a relative time based on a
