Dude, just … no. It's not about signaling or positive sentiments. All human beings are equal. Being born in one place doesn't make you special or entitles you to a job. US citizen or whatever-country citizen, all that matters is w

It reminds me of the story of the pencil: too cool to do drugs cool to do drugs to do drugs do drugs drugs ( https://boingboing.net/2014/02/25/the-story-behind-the-too-c... ) This famous writer may have been ne

At least the headline is 100% honest. I'd rather have the company tell me that it's all about the baseline than pretending it cares.

[my numbers match yours] It's very interesting that we made more or less the same choices: NFS on a LAN for cold storage. In practice, I haven't seen performance penalties either. I will certainly standardize on that. If needed, &

I love clickhouse: it's simple yet flexible enough and free software. I'm migrating a lot of data to clickhouse on clusters of servers. One of the unexpected gains is how it uses far less disk space, which means the data can be pu

Depends on what you do. For what I do, Ethernet is acceptable as long as the latency is below 1 ms. Here're some quick stats for what I consider good enough this specific usecase: rtt min/avg/max/std-dev = 0.069/0.0

When you start needing ultra low latency, you see many things very differently. Take timestamping for example. NTP has unacceptable jitter.

Regarding hardware: I try to not share infrastructure. What I can not fully control can and will dysfunction, even in datacenters. For example, the LAN options are most often VLAN. So for my servers, I have extra NICs and direct connections

I find it funny how some countries want to use crypto to avoid some regulations they don't like. However they are not using existing cryptos: instead they try to bootstrap their own crypto to still milk the seignorage cow they like, an

Geometric interpretations have a place in learning: until one is ready to understand another interpretation that is more complete, better, yet more complicated. You don't start kids with complex numbers until they can handle reals. You

I agree, there seem to be fewer in depth articles. It could be that the audience is changing to a less technical audience, or just getting older. Could you suggest a suitable replacement?

This is factually wrong. Linux does support suspend2ram on the Microsoft Go. Hibernation is just mixing suspend2ram with resume from swap. The display is not hinged, but the inclinable stand provides a similar functionality.
