It’s almost the end of 2018 — have you raised alarms bells yet for this years most hyped tech bogeymen? - deepface will change laws. - killing robots. - blockchains will make X obsolete. - AI will take your job. Am I missing something?

Honestly how would you even know if the e-ink displays infringe on IP? I can’t imagine them doing anything.

I wouldn’t ever want to be on the receiving end of a lithium fire. I’m pretty sure it would melt the side of my house off.

Agree! One of he better selling points especially over things like a genny. For that you’ll need a professional. It’s really dangerous (and illegal?) if your system backfeeds the grid.

Cell phones in many ways remind me of alcohol being introduced to North America for the first time. Europeans had thousands of years to develop physical, cultural, and religious resistance to alcohol addicion — but not the native population

It’s an app and I don’t know if you need to supply a number first. Either way they need it one time so use a throwaway only to activate the app.

Increasingly gofundme is looking like some large scale money laundering tool. Want to support political persons XYZ? Tell them to start a gofundme and then watch it magically fill up with hundreds of thousands of dollars

I was curious about their definition as well. Our world is so hyper political and polarized that the definition of “toxic” and “hate speech” varies widely depending on your political ideology. There’s zero space left in the middle.

It’s amazing to me that people look at an online community such as twitter and then determine if it’s toxic or not based on observed behaviors. They’re just people. People are toxic on twitter. Twitter is not toxic. Twitter is exactly the w

I think this is a great idea! Small (3x6”) e-ink displays are now widely available on alibaba and eBay. I’m very weary about the refresh rate. The ones I see available now look like 6s total refresh by the looks of them.

The scanlines on the CRT monitor reminded me how good the refresh rates were on that hardware back then. How did we move backwards so spectacularly with LCD panels? It’s only now that reasonably priced 144hz monitors are hitting the market.

If our legal system is working, and there’s adaquate detterances and incentives, then we should expect these cases to go down with time and celebrate that fact. I can’t read the article but I’m not sure if they address that.

In many ways taxes do pay for it. For example around 50% of state school tuition is paid for by taxes. Yet sky-high, emphatically unpayable debt persists and is getting worse.
