Natural gas space heating is a good backup solution for extreme cold. When Texas's power grid went down, people were freezing to death. AFAIK, gas delivery wasn't affected. But again, it's more of questioning the scale. Ho

How do I cook with gas if not my home hookup? By driving my car to the nearest hardware store, purchasing or renting a steel propane tank, filling it from another tank that was filled by a truck that drove in, and driving home? This is dea

We're going to need to draw the lines somewhere. Blaming gas stoves for climate change seems like a bit of an over reach. Where's the resistance to people buying crappy, unnecessary junk from countries with cheap labor and low e

Scientific unrealistic is different than socially unrealistic. It's not easy to express, but the knowledge I have of human nature, I feel like I understand better, than the knowledge I have of quantum mechanics.

The fish and bird population has been in continuous decline. The lake used to get enough freshwater replenishment to maintain a relatively balanced salinity level and saltwater ecosystem. Now, the salinity is continuously increasing over

The Salton Sea is already a man made disaster deep into ecological collapse. Even if they do it terribly, I doubt they'll make anything worse. It's also a region with no economic future, so hopefully this brings some jobs. This

If you're combining external packaging and debian packaging, or installing things manually, this is typical. Oftentimes if you're doing those, you'll have broken dependencies because Debian lags behind. I had issues keeping

Hm, fair enough point. I guess my time posting mediocre comments on HN is more valuable to me than inane internet campaigns. But I was also part of a campaign to fake Christopher Walken's presidential bid, so who am I to judge.
