Talk with "domain experts". Your job is to identify and abstract domain problems into models that can be solved using your technical expertise.

Imagine if you could build a skyscraper by running the blueprints through a machine that automatically builds it with essentially zero costs, and then you can just tear it down and rebuild it again deppending on how it responds. The enginee

It's really important to keep focus as long as we don't oversimplify the issues.

This is first and foremost a PR stunt by the BA City's goverment to push a goverment "innovation" bullet point.

A known bug is that the counting machines doesn't validate the number of votes per ballot, so you can cast multiple votes by rewriting the RFID chip with a NFC enabled phone. And even if they address that particular bug, because of the

And even that's not happening. The machine also prints the vote on the ballot, and because of the known bugs in the system people are still counting them by hand.

I don't agree about publishing the certs, but that's not the main issue. The main issue was a security flaw that allowed somebody to directly download the SSL certs of the voting system from an URL .

There are several bugs in the system reported by local engineers, like being able to add multiple votes to a sigle voter's RFID chip. This is a scandal and a complete failure at several levels, not only for the local city goverment but

Wrong. The federal goverment is from a different political party, they are NOT the same people that are running the local city goverment. The police that raided this guy's house was the metropolitan police (BA city police), not the fed

But engineering is not just product design. A solution to a problem that requires engineering expertise may be a hack of an already developed technical system. Engineering, at least in a traditional sense, is more about applying science to

Nothing new. "Educated" latin americans are expected to be able to, at least, read english. More so in tech fields.

Funny, I just call them "engineers". An Engineer (with big E, as in Designer, Doctor or Lawyer) must know the business side of things, must understand how to design technical solutions that solve real problems, and must know how to fa

In my opinion, we are having some serious problems with the words we are using. We are mixing aesthetics and stylizing with things like ui flows and product design. Just becasue it's called "Design" it doesn't mean it can only be done by pe

Spreadsheet is a great model for software. I hope designers iterate on it more in the future, with better engineered and more domain-specific products than excel.

I'm worried about the tendency to letting just "nontechnical" people "define the problem", and the general relegation of "technical" people to only build and execute a vision. Some people have a background that deals mostly in perception

I see it as a systemic problem. There isn't one root cause, but a lot of factors. For example, the "hacker" archetype really rooted in people's minds is mostly a product of movies, TV and books. At the same time, those movies, TVs and books
