No I'm just saying that HS2 seems to be more of a contractor back-pocket filler than other more meaningful projects. The amount that has gone in to build a slightly faster trainline is obscene (plus it's not actually going to be f

That doesn't really change anything with HS2 though since it'll be a decade before anyone can use the line.

I don't really get why it's such a high priority to expand the London commuter belt. Train lines may be at capacity but if more money was devolved into the northern regions so everyone doesn't have to commute to London maybe

I don't even get why companies don't post expected salary range. It's a waste of time for everyone involved if there's a completely different expectation.

Sounds like the author doesn't know about Let's Encrypt. Pretty simple and free way to secure your site with no disadvantage and it kills OPs primary argument.

I can't be the only one that gets frustrated at these remote only career sites that don't display salary/day rate. It's such a waste of time for both parties to have to go through the hoops just to find out that the comp

What about 2 small keyboards, say 4 button on either side of the bottom screen? We can call it 3DS.

Other people are suggesting alternative platforms when you could simply have an AWS autoscaling group. If a server goes down it simply relaunches a saved image.

OP is me. What is it? Oh god, it's another online dead man switch. Yeah but it's better (I think) and free (with the ability to pay if you want to). You can have it send an email, or download the app on either app store and receiv

I created https://www.deadmantracker.com and am implementing the reverse of this but your solution is a good alternative that I might support too. The way I saw it working was: * Encrypt docs into a compressed archive * Upload e

Slight tangent on that off comment at the end - why did you cancel your other accounts? If Monzo services fail or briefly go down (which is a somewhat medium risk since they've had a couple this year which lasted days) you are screwed.

I think electronic non-regulated centralized payment systems are worrying. However if they are de-centralized there are less things to worry about. As long as the community is verifiably in control of the validators/nodes then a ce

You're basically hiring an AWS devops position since you don't need to manage anything yourself. Great for the small startup but not so great for the already established enterprise that has some devops guys anyway.

It's not GDPR's fault that websites have awful user experience. If they really cared about privacy then they wouldn't use popups that required multiple clicks to remove tracking cookies.

I also hate this pricing structure. It's usually one of the big things that will make me fork over cash to a competitor instead.

You need a bank account with Paypal still. This is direct payment into your personal virtual wallet (supposedly not linked to your real identity) avoiding all banks.

Same with Monzo banking app (UK). You buy something from Amazon that goes over a certain threshold: Browser: "Waiting for third party auth". Phone: "Hey did you approve this purchase? Yes/No". Very user friendly, in

This criticism is valid but it's not a problem blockchain is trying to solve. It merely acts as a way to have immutable records. Regardless of if you use a blockchain solution or not, the fact that real world corruption or ignorance ca

The EU is very consumer protection focused, which is very different from the US. It's just a point of view I don't see how you can perceive it as entitlement. Not everyone knows how privacy works and how much data is available by

Only without consent from the user. Previously it was an ethically grey area to be logging IP addresses anyway. If you are preventing malicious use, then that is allowed as long as you are not using that data outside of the bounds of the us

You don't need to get access to a lot of machines. Because the chain is long and obscure, there's no way to be verifiable, and even if there was that chain would require specialist infallible programmers to ensure nothing has been

Well the UK government doesn't get a vote on TTIP... I mean it's a reason to not vote for a Brexit if anything since then they WOULD get a vote to secure a trade deal privately with the US if the UK left the EU.
