I don't have any specific experience with Matrix to share suggestions from, unfortunately. But that's a good solution! Thanks for looking into it.

A CI is made out of code and configuration files and policies which can also be screwed up. Using CI can be helpful but it won't save you from these kinds of mistakes.

Hi Alex! Please, please, please do not use Discord to organize your open source project's community. Open source projects should rely on open source infrastructure. Discord is a proprietary platform, with a proprietary client, using a

Ads considered harmful. Don't let random companies spy on and mindhack your readers. It devalues your reputation and is not a humane way to treat people.

Aye, my condolances to anyone on Teams who will have to deal with annoying Matrix users. Their client has been a major nuisance to IRC.

Coming in late, but sr.ht also differs from RedisLabs in the sense that sr.ht is 100% FLOSS, no strings attached - and RedisLabs publishes a lot of source-available (i.e. nonfree) software.

Hacker News gets it most wrong with the flagging system, which is ripe for abuse (and is constantly abused). I sent this to dang some time ago, and was met with a muted response: I realized something interesting the other day - users gain a

Bitcoin is an enormously wasteful ponzi scheme mind virus and YC should be ashamed of their involvement in it - not proud. I long for the day (which it seems may come soon!) when cryptocurrencies are outlawed and we can all move on with our

Gold is also the most reasonable element to use as a store of value. It isn't very reactive or radioactive, so it's stable for long periods of time, it's a solid at room temperature, it's not hazardous to human health, i

Though it's not entirely in the spirit of the HN guidelines, I find it reasonble to flag dangerous content. I've done so for this post, and I would advise onlookers to do the same.

I'm happy to see a couple of good choices made here: - Sticking with Apache 2.0 - Asking for a Developer Certificate-of-Origin rather than a copyright assignment This bodes well for the future of this fork. Amazon also has the resource

dvtm is very good in principle, but in practice its terminal emulation leaves a lot to be desired. I would love to see someone refactor it to use, say, libvterm as the terminal backend.

Matrix being slow has a lot more to do with their crappy implementation than it has to do with the nature of a federated network.

Threema does not have federation, therefore it suffers from the same fundamental design flaw which allows Signal to abuse its position like this.

Let's stop making the same mistake over and over again. It is centralized, not federated, and therefore Threema is likely to suffer the same fate.

Moxie has a history of being an asshole to anyone trying to make a third-party client. They're prohibited from using the OWS servers, which do not federate (so they couldn't talk to Signal users), and Moxie has attacked third-part

At least OFTC and Rizon are also still going strong, in addition to Freenode. There are also many private IRC networks which serve smaller communities and have not seen much in the way of stagnation.
