"Based on Apple’s response, it seems my “devil’s advocate” hunch in my initial piece on this was pretty close to the mark: that it’s about Apple’s competitive relationship with Google. Put another way, Apple does not want to make it easy o

This is possibly the most unusable website I have ever seen. I can't even get to an "about" page. It keeps sending me to a Chinese version of the site.

There was nothing new in this video, really. Buchheit seems to be pretty good at talking without saying anything.

The flaws in the iPhone are almost always made to improve the user experience. The flaws in Android seem to be made out of incompetence.

Apple does not compete on the low end, where margins are razor thin. They own the premium computer market where margins are high.

I had a similar experience a while ago. My PowerBook G4 Titanium overheated and melted. I called Apple support. They took my number and told me to wait for a call. Ten minutes later, an executive in Cupertino called me and apologized for my

Nowhere does the logged-out site answer the question "what is this?" anymore. I guess they are assuming everyone knows what it is already. I think that could be a mistake. I wonder what will happen to the signup conversion now. I hope they

This makes sense if all future emails from the sender are marked as spam, but the email I am using to unsubscribe should not be marked as spam. The button should be "unsubscribe and mark all future emails as spam."

That's a rumor now, but we'll see the real numbers with the SEC filings. Also, I asked Tony if Zappos was profitable about 4 months ago and he said yes.

All of the things discussed in this essay are problems I see with product design as well. Lots of people ask me for advice, and the first thing I always tell them is to change the first sentence a user sees on the homepage from "Abstract te

Do not use the flag button for things like this. That's not what it's for. This is not spam or off-topic. If you don't want to support the story, don't vote for it.

This is absolutely not true. The difference between the screen on the 13" and the 15" MacBook Pro is enormous. The text is far sharper on the 15", and that matters hugely to developers. It matters to anyone who reads text. When you use dith

I thought about this. But there's a fine line between being tacky and being efficient. When I read bandwagon phrases like the one you propose, I always cringe. It's just not genuine.
