Yeah, there appears to be very little hard research on the subject, but my personal experience from reading neuroscience journals has led me to the understanding that REM sleep removes tiredness. In fact, people with REM sleep behavior diso

I am trying to find a couple primary sources to back up your suggestion that I got the REM/other phases backwards. That would be quite embarrassing, but I am pretty sure I am correct. Does anyone know of any of any good studies done on REM

I was referring to the bottle that has liquid-reduction technology you are talking about. There appears to be some mechanism that only lets the viscous liquid through, but it keeps jamming and preventing anything from coming through. Not a

Can you provide a real world example of where this is the case in a healthy market? I do not think this is true except in very poor market conditions like with monopolies or odd social situations.

Of course those things matter, and they're part of the customer experience. Your marketing and sales strategy should be of the same quality as your product. Don't think of them separately. You're providing value with the product and convinc

It seemed like a slight overreaction here, but I have a feeling this was built-up rage over something else.

I see the point of the article, but it's sort of like saying that if you only sell bland tasting food at the supermarket, you'll make people stop eating as much. And they'll be healthier! Sacrificing the accessibility/ease of use of a build

You only have to transmit data when something is wrong. You can use software to determine when to start sending updates.

Are you one of the people behind Twitvid.com? You would have to be blind to think there was no blatant copying here. Even the icons are the same.

I'd like some data too! Anyone own a chain of restaurants? Do you want to implement better receipts and the hardware/infrastructure required? I'll help.

Externally, it feels like Arrington is Darth Vader when he makes mistakes like this Last.fm one. He has power. But in person, when you abstract away the manufactured opinions you have created based on his writing, you realize he's just anot

As stupid and cliche as this sounds, it's kind of right. I have this quote up, and every time I look at it, I get a boost: "Get action. Do things; be sane, don't fritter away your time; create, act, take a place wherever you are and be some

I find it extremely unlikely that Last.fm is outright lying or trying to obscure the truth. That would be pretty stupid of them. But I also doubt Arrington would be this direct about the issue if he didn't have some really, really solid pro

An interface is just a transporter to help you get from where you are to a place where your goal is completed. That's it. There are varying levels of "effectiveness" in transporting you, though, and that's where the quality of the interface

I've only done very brief advising to groups in big companies, a long time ago. I've never worked in one. I can't imagine the horror. But it doesn't really matter if the company is big or small, does it? The end result still has to be of so

Ha, that's what I'm working on right now at Frogmetrics.com. We're a YC-funded company, and our goal is to try and help some of these enterprises understand customers better so they can better the customer experience.

You mean the real world of crappy large corporations. Plenty of large companies are not run this badly. At least I hope they're not.

Ah, what I meant to say was "The reason big companies with bad design are the way they are is because they are run poorly from the top, with philosophies that force the entire company to behave like its lowest common denominator."
