Well, we don’t need two identity providers, for one. I’m sure the non wasteful things will be sustained under different management that isn’t insubordinate.

Sounds like insubordination.

Why does the government need two identity providers? Login dot gov is good, agree. But why do we need two?

None of the individuals working for this agency could provide a list of 5 things they did the prior week, either. The subthread here was talking about waste generally I wasn’t intending to move any goalposts. Ignore fraud. I still think it’

When you cut out fraud waste and abuse you can actually reduce spend while increasing individual pay.

I feel like a lot of the discussion is beating around the bush or tangential. The very simple cause of this wave of layoffs is in response to the “what did you do this week?” email. If you’ve been following closely, a week ago DOGE sent an

I haven’t seen the main impetus for the layoffs brought up yet: the people let go were unable or unwilling to send an email listing 5 things they accomplished in the last week, twice. People are acting like DOGE is attacking tech support re

If Twitter was a failing business and Musk didn't have a proven track record, I’d be a lot more skeptical in general. If the nuclear staffing cuts weren’t immediately rolled back, I’d feel more concerned about the ability of the wielde

There is waste everywhere. I sincerely don’t understand how, when the stated plan is to look closely at all orgs and cut waste across the board, when the lens focuses on specific instances of orgs, the response is “not this one, cutting her

Extraneous regulation stifles innovation and is the definition of bloat. I certainly haven't been protected from corporate greed lately, have you? The main function if gov’t is to provide a military. That’s appropriate spend.

I disagree that trying to curb “fraud waste and abuse” is an outfight foolish endeavor, no.

I’m not moving goalposts, that’s what DOGE is attacking. It’s 100% part of efficiency. And it’s absolutely happening. DOGE is addressing “fraud, waste, and abuse”.

They shouldn’t be taking pay cuts, for one. The government should be paying competitively and fairly.

I cannot accept that sending 100B to an NGO where 90-95B ends up in politicians’ pockets and 10-5% ends up as actual aid or whatever is the most efficient system.

The way you combat the creep of bureaucratic miasma is by regularly turning a critical eye inward. At least private organizations perform regular layoffs. At least private organizations are accountable to shareholders. The government is acc

HN was in the same uproar after Musk reformed Twitter. Minor disruption? “The sky is falling!” Brief outage? “It’s malice!” “You see! Musk is obviously driving it into the ground.” Could there be a world in the middle where maybe the govern

This is exactly how the HN community responded to Twitter, too. The amount of baseless speculation paraded as fact is crazy for a supposedly rationalist community.

Windows is definitely on arm. It just sucks because Qualcomm failed to deliver a good cpu package. The experience is within a stones throw of Apple, though. I also have one of the new AMD 300 AI platforms, and it still can’t do power right.

Why should malware repos be deleted? Serious question. The repos aren't themselves doing harm, are valuable for research, and would be distributed some other way if GH removed them. Maybe a banner “be careful! others have reported that

That is not the argument. The argument is that, with appropriate court order, a site operator must take down the illegal material (if it hasn’t already been moderated out). However, the site owner should not be liable for that content app
