These guidelines aren't specific to COVID though, and they are not conditioned upon any projected efficacy or disease severity. They are laid out as a matter of principle, valid even assuming, say a 90% fatal disease and a 90% effectiv

I'm missing the arguments for why any of these guidelines are supposedly ethical. The implication of these are that a handful of individual's rights to refuse e.g. vaccines is appropriately balanced against a potentially huge loss

Not weighing in on the conclusions here, merely wanted to say that I don't think the island is as small as the author makes it out to be. The dead outnumber the living by about 15:1.

I listened to the Vox Conversations podcast and I feel somewhat skeptical about the conclusions regarding happiness. The author of the book says that he trusts a major study on the subject because it sampled what people were doing at the pr

Paul Bourke's webpage is a true internet gem for 3D reference information. I don't know how many times I must've landed on his page on 3D file format specifications.

I think this sounds like using a Markov process to model a current state and reachable states, at two steps away, and tryimg to assign transition probabilities between them. The flaw I see in this approach is that one has limited sensing (d

I was thinking "oh wasn't there a project a few years ago that also used the GPIO pins to broadcast FM radio?". Turns out those few years were almost a decade: https://hackaday.com/2012/12/10/tr

I wonder if one could build a couple of aircraft carrier for commercial airliners and post them out in the Pacific somewhere to get shorter ETOPS-compliant flight paths. I also wonder how much fuel is spent carrying fuel and if emissions wo

My suggestion is to follow Kimon Nicolaides' "The natural way to draw" It's almost the antithesis of Betty Edwards' "Drawing on right side of the brain". Follow the exercises as if you were doing push-ups.

If the drones have cameras and you can scatter AR markers around the space with known positions, you can probably just use a Kalman filter based on detecting the markers.
