I think build vs. buy is a tangent debate. Engineers should build software that is the core competency of the business. Within that we can definitely debate who is 0.1x or 10x and whether less is more.

I tend to hire people for what they will do, not for what they have done. AFAIK, full stack means someone who will be able to work at all levels of our stack to deliver something that works on top of the surface (eg. UI) or edges (eg. API)
