Did you hear of the Edison board? Sank like a stone. And like many things Intel lost interest. Intel is culturally incapable of doing long-attention-span products. They only succeed with fire-and-forget products. Sustained effort over the l

It was the tradition of New England churches to keep pretty good birth, death, and marriage records. Plus, the Mayflower gang and other early arrivals have been fairly extensively documented. Once you can hook your limb of the tree into t

Congratulations! Your post made me do something that almost never happens -- I went and read an article that I otherwise had no intention of reading :) So here is a data point, it is only one, but it is mine: I am eagerly awaiting the arri

All day doing presentations? That isn't what we are talking about here. Starting the day with 30 minutes of "open mic" to introduce yourself and tell us about something cool that you did is an outright invitation to start th

Perfect filter! I would rather not hire someone who doesn’t want to explain their projects and finds it onerous. Win-win.

We have people do a 30 minute presentation on anything they think we might find relevant. It is a really great way to start off a day of interviews with a candidate. It is a great self-introduction and a great stimulus for meaningful interv

I will add: Anything Stephane Grappelli. A traditionalist might tell you to learn the head and chord changes to the 100 most recorded jazz standards as a core basis for listening/learning. Along that line consider creating play lists

I have also seen some work on doing collision checking for robot arm kinematics -- which is a rather nasty problem when done the traditional way. [edit to add] Also all the classic RF transmission line problems that one would normally solve

A few months back I did a few experiments with this package. It allows GA-ish notation in a Python script by providing GA types and operators. It this didn't exists, you would want to write it yourself, and probably do is far less we

A few months back I made an effort to learn GA. I did get some traction, but eventually shelved the effort. The thing that put me off is that no one could explain how to do units analysis in GA. I am mainly interested in physics and engi
