If nothing else, one can examine the current expansion's duration against the history of other expansions. The longest business cycle expansion in U.S. history lasted 119 months. The current one is going on 97 months. Even in the abse

I can vouch for this, from the other side. We routinely catch AWS hosts running password-guessing bots against our login forms. Emailing abuse@amazonaws.com doesn't seem to lead to reductions in our fail2ban and custom tarpit logs.

VPN is one layer. Filtering all port 80, only permitting TLS, and aggressively paring down your trusted root cert list can effectively mitigate the MITM threat.

This is odd. The primary point of VPN services (aside from a layer of protection on untrusted networks) is to mix your traffic in with N other random users such that the chance of you being identified as the source of the traffic is 1/

Hate to appeal to authority, but tptacek has addressed this many times previously, citing going market price differentials between FF and chrome bugs. The security model of Chrome lends itself to far fewer serious vulnerabilities than in FF

Is there any evidence of this type of telemetry? Assuming you use it (or better, Chromium) as just a browser (e.g. don't log into it) behind your VPN, proxy, or overlay network of choice, I can't imagine this threat model being

Firefox instead of chrome Although I understand your sentiment here on philosophic grounds, it would be far more practical to run Chrome, because the likelihood of NSA hoarding effective chrome 0days is much smaller than hoarding FF 0days

The top comment on that post is incredibly disappointing. Unpopular though it may be, things like working memory, granular abstraction comprehension, and logical reasoning capability are highly correlated with g. And g is largely immutabl

Good, but bear in mind that the Xorg clipboard is, in many cases, readable by arbitrary applications. If you can run Wayland, do it. If for no other reason, this.

That's more or less the point of the GGP's suggestion. Contempt is generally brought in cases where you have the ability to comply, but choose not to. If you do not have even the ability to comply, justifying contempt becomes incr

Children growing up today won't learn C programming by reading the Linux kernel source code. With any luck, children growing up today won't learn C at all, or at least ONLY for historical understanding. It is an absolute securit

HN, CNET, Motherboard, Slashdot, Ars, TC, NYT tech etc. Free product advertising worth $N targeted to the more influential product adopters, who will then amplify said advertisements. That's my guess, anyway.
