Hate to appeal to authority, but tptacek has addressed this many times previously, citing going market price differentials between FF and chrome bugs. The security model of Chrome lends itself to far fewer serious vulnerabilities than in FF. I do agree with you that rewriting the entire browser in a safe language like Rust would be a significant shift in the security situation.
