This is security Inception. There have been many PoCs for compilers and linkers being modified to then insert backdoors into compiled/linked output. At some point you have to trust your toolchain.

I think it's prudent to assume (even if not accurate in every case) that any VPN provider that reaches PIA scale has already been compromised by the relevant State Actor working its jurisdiction. It's the tragedy of success in the

Prior to circa 2005, people managed to get by just fine without companywide calendars clogged with irrelevant PTO days, etc. Modern shared calendars arguably provide negative value versus simply keeping a private calendar.

While I absolutely agree with you about the "tptacek & friends" agenda, that really has no bearing whatsoever on the actual problems they've raised with MTProto, their weird KDF, and IGE in general. Whenever one can consi

I assume you're referring to Fluffy's announcement stunt? There is neither evidence, nor motive, for "insider trading". All he did was troll the moneychanging/parasite class, which is a beautiful thing.

Hate to pile on with the same comment that appears in every "github.com is down" post on HN, but BTC/ETH/LTC are decentralized networks. Why would anyone carry balances in wallets outside their immediate, local control?

I earn far less than that, as CTO of a Southern California e-commerce company. The salaries in this spreadsheet seem incredibly high for one year of experience.

Yes, but it's this janky Symantec-only implementation. AFAIK I'm unable to use a generic TOTP authenticator like Duo or GA.

Some context for this tweet: infosec twitter has been going absolutely nuts over Durov's conspiracy theory over Signal's USG funding in the last couple days: https://twitter.com/matthew_d_green/status/873

I saw this kind of thing twice firsthand in 2000-2001. I suspect when the current bubble's funding tide goes out, you'll find many seemingly upstanding founders resort to desperate, and illegal, measures.

Labor has never had it easier than it does right now in 2017, in a G8 country. The mental gymnastics required to tell a 1930s sharecropper, an 1890s coal miner, or a 1770s battlefield medic that writing javascript in an air-conditioned cubi

You can rent a 1600 ft^2 house in my town for about $600/mo. If one is willing to do without the conveniences and hedonism of urban and suburban areas, most of the country is eminently livable on very little income.
