People who come into money should think the importance of things, but to be a bit cynical, let's not forget: This is an article about the virtues of living in small homes written by a man who is in the business of selling small homes. And I

Collective action problems imply a lack of consequences. QED. To your point that all the effort to combat fraud implies there is a problem, you've created a fallacious point. To your point on unproductive exercise, I believe it is wasted ef

You say it's obviously untrue, so what are the obvious consequences of credit card fraud? I believe that anything you suggest worth addressing costs more than the fraud itself. The only way to eliminate fraud is to show that doing so increa

I used the term consequences deliberately. The merchant may have losses, but they have no leverage. The option to not take credit cards is not available to most sellers of goods. On a large scale the cost of fraud simply becomes a cost of

I've thought about this "problem" and decided there's no problem. You're solving a non-problem if you try to solve credit card fraud. The reason we don't deal with credit card fraud is that there are no consequences for being a victim, for

You're entitled to this view, but if you are an entrepreneur running a free service, I'd caution you from believing it. I run a free service with 50 Million daily end users and if I made such a drastic change, users would (rightfully) be up

That's not the real problem with BangWithFriends. That's just a symptom or side-effect of the real problem. As the idiom goes, if you lie down with dogs, you will get up with fleas.

Worth adding, that "yoshimi battles the pink robots" is an amazing album by the same band about a woman's battle with cancer, and love, and loss. It was just turned into an amazing play (technically an opera (rock opera!) since it's just th

I prefer the OpenGarden model for this, which is entirely software based, and thus only needs an Android (and hopefully soon iOS) phone to accomplish the exact same. And as speeds and phones get faster and more pervasive, their distributio
