In 1994 I got a new 486 computer to run a unix as I was using a mix of unixes at work. It was hard to choose technically between the various BSD and Linux disks from Walnut Creek CDrom. So I took a look into the mailing lists. On the BSD li

This sounds like my dad. He was a skillful pilot but enjoyed risk too much to be a “good” pilot. Died of lymphoma 30 years ago, so it never caught up with him. He flew a lot for a private pilot, over ten thousand hours,so had a few of those

I’ve never seen a hot water fire truck. Are they common in your area? eta: Even hot water still has a high latent heat of vaporization.

I personally have had the car I was driving catch fire spontaneously. Once I was inside, once nearby. Funny thing, same car, different causes.

I wonder quite why something like a PT6 costs so much. The development costs are surely paid off by now, and it’s produced in fairly high volume, but it remains expensive. Maybe SpaceX should get into aircraft engines?

Back in the 1980s I used spend a fair amount of work time in rooms with a VAX and can attest to their powerful and noisy fans. If you are a pro with a VAX, you had better be a fan liker.

V* engines share a common crankshaft with both banks, that's the V part. Please cite any specific V12 aircraft engine that can have one bank of cylinders shut down. I don't believe one exists.
