They tested with four speakers and ran additional tests with one speaker. Results are consistent across the speakers. Consider also that they are measuring the relative filtration of different masks, not the absolute filtration.

They did not test an infected person. They measured droplets, not virus. Disease progress is not relevant to this paper.

Lua was originally invented as a way to describe complex data. At some point it was enhanced with executable data and from there it’s a small step to become a programming language.

My first computer was a wire wrapped home brew with a Signetics 2650 cpu, and a handful of 74LS logic and 1kx4 static ram chips. The Signetics 2650 cpu had an 8 level on chip return stack. It was a good microprocessor for the time, easy to

As I recall, there were a few "ambitious" projects on the UI side, application builders or frameworks or something that were failing around then. I think there was a real loss of management focus on actual products in favor of cha

And the response to AIDS was malicious neglect for years in many countries. A large portion of those deaths were due to bigotry. So I suppose somewhat like the situation in the US with COVID-19 today.

My father flew a lot and owned a Comanche B and later a Twin Comanche turbo. I spent a lot of time in and around Comanches. Great looking airplane and nice to fly in.

If you add a guard to your awk script to check the line number you can avoid using tail: awk -F, 'NR > 2 {s+=$(NF)} END {print s}'

Awk, particularly mawk, is several times faster than python for a lot of file ripping tasks. If I had several billion lines of data to reformat or summarize, I'd almost always reach for awk before python.

Awk arrays are dictionaries, what are you missing?

by davidgould 6y ago
Almost. It doesn't handle multi word cities, eg "San Franciso", and it spawns extra processes. Try: awk -F "\t" 'NR != 1 { if (!cities[$5]++) n++ } ; END { print n }' payroll.tsv

Not necessarily, my Spark EV has older less dense batteries and has only 80 miles of range. It is still perfect for it’s role as a commuter and around town car, so there’s no reason to upgrade.

Assuming the the canceling wave is timed to cancel at the speaker this should not matter as the external wave and the canceling wave would have the same distance to the ear drum.

STM8 is a fairly new design although with some similarities to the 6502 and 6800. It does have multiply and divide instructions. It also has a plethora of addressing modes: ld a, #42 ; immediate. C constants ld a, var

SDCC is the open source compiler of choice for stm8. It's not GCC, but it's enough. I'd be tempted to agree about the registers except that it takes wider instructions to encode the registers used so a well thought out accumu

Yay for STM8. Cheap as dirt especially for how capable they are, and pretty sweet architecture for an 8 bit.

Not quite following this argument. The distance between the microphone and speaker is fixed (and small compared to the wavelengths of interest) because they are part of the AirPod.

Save yourself 17000 hours of tedium and don't read "Fall, or Dodge in Hell". I'm a Stephenson fan from way back and have read everything, and loved a lot of it, but Fall is lukewarm garbage. Seven Eves and D.O.D.O. were
