And don't forget how awful Dell support is. I know someone who did their "on site" support... unbelievably bad.

Not a fair comparison. MPAA has been losing sales for years already. This may never even happen.

Over the last few weeks I've been setting up a personal linux server. Every single process I add has a different configuration. Systems like Postfix have nice things like "this combination of variable settings produces this behavior, but

Yes, I'm still hoping some day someone will make a Linux Distro that uses OpenLDAP for configuration as much as possible instead of flat files scattered all over the system, all with different syntax.

What you're talking about is the Linux desktop world and you could be right about that; maybe it will finally become more standardized but I don't see mainstream desktop markets really noticing. Linux desktop is, what, maybe 1.5% or so?

I see nothing wrong with it. If some of my employees would rather take FB's big fat check to go be at facebook then I probably don't want them anyway.

That is interesting news, but turn the OS market upside down? You can't be serious.

I disagree. IMO dynamic load libraries was a known bad solution before they were made (dll hell). Plenty of exploits have come from them, plenty of horror stories, etc. If you have a nice distro anyway, upgrading a given library that eve

In my experience it's "big company-itis". Work at a big company very long and literally everyone starts adopting this kind of mentality. You kind of have to because if you don't everyone is going to start using you and your own tasks will

Yes, this is a big deal and hasn't been attempted nearly enough yet. I believe Git will let you implement your own "hunk" handlers (I know Darcs would) so you should be able to do it there. Once you have that it should be much easier to ch

If we had a small government what would stop the rich from spending money to make it large? Some might argue that's exactly what happened in the US. I think the US' behavior as of late demonstrates that writing something in a "constitutio

Realistically, what "great products" has MS produced? From my perspective, MS has always been vastly better at winning the market because they're nearly always competing with inferior products.

Your ex-employer certainly doesn't think so. Especially if they were awful. Personally, I'd like to see as much transparency as possible. Jobs are a market like anything else. The more transparent, the more possibilities for efficiency.

My understanding of "seed" was that it was used to get the thing off the ground, i.e. "I don't even have a real demo yet, but I really believe in this". I don't think YC is going to let you in on that, right? Even if they do, forcing me t
