How convenient for Apple fans to talk about "profit share" when app stores are discussed and "market share" when antitrust comes up. I'm saying that the "benevolent dictator" model that Apple is following

And the current situation with iOS is an even bigger catastrophe for society. I don't think the problem is copying per se... the problem is that Apple is just too big, too powerful, to be good for society. Apple should be broken up.

It doesn't matter — it is so obviously wrong to discriminate based on country of origin that I can't even believe we're having this discussion. (And yes, I'm aware that consular posts do it all the time, issuing fewer vi

No, we do not "raise one eyebrow" because someone was born on the wrong patch of dirt. That is a shameful and disgusting approach for the "shining city on a hill" to take.

It turns out that those solutions STEM folks have to technical problems have created a whole host of social problems. The pendulum needs to swing the other way.

STEAM just correctly recognizes that STEM people systematically underrate the importance of history and social studies.

Linux is only a monoculture on the server. Server-side applications will sometimes use Linux -specific features but generally are written to be ported to other POSIX systems with little work. Of course the git monoculture is bad. Have you

Right, there's definitely all sorts of issues with closures (esp async ones) if you don't have lifetime analysis. But Rust is the only systems programming language that I take seriously.

Why are closures unsuitable for systems programming? Rust does them really well, not even allocating in the most common cases.

"he said, she said" is only useful when both he and she have relatively equal power. When one entity can hold a metaphorical gun to the other person's head, it no longer works.

One of the worst misconceptions many people have is that the world works on policy. Policy simply does not matter in such situations. This is entirely about identity, signaling, and sending nativists messages from the top.

There's no solution to climate change that does not involve science. However, there's no solution to climate science that doesn't involve engaging with humans either. Pathos is a fundamental part of engaging with humans.
