You could spend some working hours brushing up your knowledge about whatever tech stack companies nowadays ask for. You don’t need to become an expert in X, Y and Z, a bit of exposure and understanding of the fundamentals is enough to put i

Does someone know how it handles (if any) zero downtime deployments? Like, if your Python service is running in one machine on port 8080 behind nginx, how does piku switch to a fresh instance running in the same port?

True. I never had a projector before, so there are some naive assumptions i’m making here (like the bigger the font and the further away the screen is, the better for my eyes). Thanks!

Thanks a lot! May I ask if you noticed any difference regarding eye strain? I definitely notice it when i’m working with my laptop and when I’m working with an external monitor. And how far away do you usually project your screen? Is it OK

I guess it depends on the region. Recently, I have quit a job to get a 15% increase (I know, it’s not a huge increase but I am already hitting this glass ceiling around here in Europe for senior developers)

Sure, perhaps for organizations of thousands of people, that may be needed. For startups with less than a hundred employees? OKRs are a waste of time.

I somehow did. My previous company started to enforce everyone living in cities in which they had offices, to RTO. I was working far away from any of such cities, and they let me continue working remotely. But seeing many of my colleagues g

From my experience, interviewers with zero experience start with shadowing (so the interview is driven by someone with experience and you just are there listening and learning the process)

I think Platform Engineering is meant to die. If services like AWS or GCP were user friendly (from the perspective of product engineers) then we wouldn’t need platform engineers (or at least we would need orders of magnitude fewer platform

I use linkedin for jobs. I also have a private profile with some connections. All the spam and social media content is not a concern because: I disable linkedin notifications, so no alerts, no emails, no nothing. I use it when I need it. If

Stay with iterm < 3.5.0? It has been a while since the last release… I don’t mind staying outdated for some more time. Also, I’m not sure if the openai thingy is mandatory.

Same conclusion. I would even add: it’s not the end of the world if you don’t happen to achieve your goals. If you’re in peace with yourself, you can easily say “there’s still time” (if there’s actually time left) or simply “well, it was wo

How do you release a new version of your service/app? Do you aim to do zero-downtime deployments? If so, how? The biggest issue I find is that doing zero downtime deployments on the same machine/server is a bit pita because of th

Isn’t that problem easily solved by adding to your open source project’s license: “FAANG companies (like Google, etc.) cannot use or make profit from this project” ? Better stated, of course, but you get the point.

So, I usually think in terms of longevity. I do own some books, because in case computers don’t work anymore, well I can still read good stuff. I have plenty of PDFs/epubs in my laptop because the internet may not work anymore anytime.
