Let me start with your last point because it’s where you’ve misread the original comment and why none of your following arguments seem to make sense to onlookers. They have a MacBook Pro with an M4, not an M4 Pro. That is a wildly different

Their point is that they’re comparing between SoCs that aren’t in the same class, not that it’s not fast. They’re not arguing against their subjective experience using it, they’re arguing against the comparison point as an objective metric.

That doesn’t really affect what I’m saying though. Yes, support capped out with the M2, but you can still observe the properties of efficiency on there.

dirs is a library project not part of Rust the language’s stdlib. You’ll find just as surly responses in many libraries across many languages. It feels a bit absurd to judge the language ecosystem by the maintainer of a single library.

It’s worse at switching power states, but at a given power state it is within the ball park of macOS power use. The things where it lags are anything that use hardware acceleration or proper lowering to the lower power states.

This argument never passes the sniff test. You can run Linux on a MacBook Pro and get similar power efficiency. Or run third party apps on macOS and similarly get good efficiency.

The fabs need external customers not just intel to be profitable. The custom designs for hyperscalars don’t count as external customers, they’re just part of Intels own production set. And since nobody but AMD or VIA can make x86, it has to

This is accurate. A lot of projects that come out are each teams research projects unless they’re tied to a specific product which is when they start working closer together and integrating further. However this repo was specifically part o

Qualcomm wouldn’t have to try to do that. Tegra was basically a side project for Nvidia that they barely care about till the switch came along.

They’re not sacred but changing them gives a much lower payoff than the pain of changing. None of your suggestions actually improve the situation. They’d just not scale the way you think they would to other display types when you query the

It’s not a bad standard just because you personally struggle to understand it. Lots of things have historical names, especially in computer graphics, that are now standard. What is an absolute safe area or an unobstructed area in video then

Safe area is an industry wide term for the “safe area to display in”. It means that it’s a high probability of being safe to have important content there, not that it is a safe guarantee. Your suggestion here and in the responses would be b

Vulkan is a derivative of mantle sure, but it is quite different than what Mantle was. There was a period in between where AMD basically EOL’d mantle and Vulkan wasn’t even in the works yet.

The majority of compute users do not care. Everyone who uses a tablet or smartphone obviously doesn’t care. Anyone on a Mac doesn’t care, and even on windows, only very performance sensitive people would care if Prism isn’t doing its thing.

Other than just the niceness of the interface, a key one is that the M4 generation added profiling of CPU branching and afaik instruments is the only thing that supports it right now

I’d also just add that Fuji has some of the worst autofocus on the market right now. Going between my Fuji and Sony bodies, I realized how much I took my Sony AF for granted. If Sony would make a MF body, I’d be all in.

I’m sorry, if you’re going to argue it’s completely off base at least make a statement that isn’t easily dismissed by looking at the back of a phone. My iPhone pro has 3 lenses of 15,24 and 77mm equivalents. This is far fewer than many Andr
