This is a really odd take. Should I accept that my car can kill me because statically other drivers may also cause a crash and kill me? There are a few Tesla crashes on camera, and they look like something even a fairly bad driver could avo

Removing lidar was 100% a cost saving that was ordered by Elon. I am sure there are internal investigations showing all kind of problems when lidar is removed, and Elon choose to ignore them all to save a few bucks. Look at what he did at t

If you are doing embedded work, which is where you often do cross-compiling, you still need nightly. But that's a whole different can of worms.

According to NYT Tesla has been involved in 200+ court cases. At some point new buyers attitude will change from "this will never happen to _me_" to "shit, this happens all the time".

"That's why go's toolchain isn't as messed up as npm, yarn, grunt, ..." And let's be honest, Rust toolchain is pretty messed up too. Want to cross-compile with go? Set the GOOS variable and you are done. On Rus

You realise flatpak had been around almost 20 years and has a HUGE community and commercial vendors behind it? Brew was until recently just one guy in SF. But let's agree to disagree.

It would be interesting to compare development speed of Servo and ladybird. One is done in Rust, the other in modern C++. At least to an outsider like me it seems ladybird is moving much faster, although this could be due to reasons unrelat

Core system package managers (apt etc) handle security issues quickly and in collaboration with security researchers and authorities. They have far more manpower, experience and connections than brew. Bleeding edge is handled by rolling pa

I don't see that. Brew on Linux is a copy of dito on osx which itself was inspired by Linux package managers. Instead of using the real deal, people generally suggest Brew because that's what they are familiar with from osx. If yo

Kinda off topic, but when I see a project or an article use brew on Linux instead of their native package manager or something like flatpak I generally assume the author has very limited knowledge about Linux and I can ignore this project&

Can't we all agree that both suck and everyone should use org? Jokes aside, org seems to have a more clear specification and is very easy so use. Why don't more people use it? I think Github already renders README.org as good as R

Does pytorch have better acceleration on x64 CPUs nowadays? Last time I played with LLMs on CPU with pytorch you had to replace some stuff with libraries from Intel otherwise your performance would be really bad.

They mention that as state of the art, this one is supposed to be 14-18x better. By the way, has anyone ran these locally? Is the inference time also lower?

Interesting that other than C only pascal has survived (kind of). I have fond memories of Pascal, but when I think about it is actually Turbo Pascal I have great memories of and not so much the language itself. Turbo C/C++ was surprisi

That 10% and around 400 votes is very close to previous campaigns to vote out certain authors. It just crazy to see one failed author spend much time and resources fighting against people he probably never have met.

A ccording to Wikipedia this is a right-libertarian science fiction award run by an activist who also happens to have won four of the awards so far. Does that look better to you?
